I think I read somewhere that all 30 teams play a total of 5 games each and the two with the best record play against each other for the title.

06-20-2022, 03:48 PM
Yup.

The first four games for each team have been announced. After those games are completed, the league will seed all 30 teams and schedule a fifth game for each. The top two seeds will play in the championship game on Sunday, July 17, at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN. All other teams will play their final game on either July 16 or July 17.

The SL has historically been my favorite part of the year. I've really hated what's happened to it after ESPN brought the broadcasting rights. It went from being a treat for nerds/hardcore fans to a casual spectacle.

I miss getting streaming access to every game for like $15 back in they day. I have ESPN, but it doesn't feel the same when you're at their discretion about when to watch the games.

My understanding is there is no restriction on who can play, so he technically could. But like you said, it's probably "beneath him" since Summer League is usually for rookies and GLeague prospects, not guys who have been in the league 3 years (although not with a lot to show for it)

Especially with three first-round picks and a fewer-than-normal amount of games. I would be surprised to see anyone from last year's main club in the Summer League outside of maybe one game of Primo and perhaps some minutes for Wieskamp and other end-of-roster guys.

I see no reason to not expect him to play the full SL. This is his year to be the featured option. Next year is for the rookies. People reference Anderson sitting but forget that he sat in his third SL. He played every game of his second and won MVP.

I'm basing my assumption on there only being 5 SL games total. Are there more?

If I'm right, I'm assuming that the FO has seen enough of Primo compared to the three (oops, four) rooks to where they'd rather give the new guys a few games to get their feet wet, rather than have them all play mostly off the ball while Primo does his thing.

They'll see those guys in the d-league and training camp. It makes more sense to evaluate someone like Primo, especially as they attempt to make moves to address their rotation. The young guys likely don't factor into it, especially as primary ball-handlers.

Also the Spurs have had five SL games in the past. They only started doing the Utah SL a few years ago. They used to play their Vegas games and lose them and get a single consolidation game every year.

So Primo lost an inch… he was listed at 6-6 last summer. Wieskamp’s height remains 6-6. Strange.

Sochan was assumed to be 6-9 in the pre-draft period, but clocks in at 6-8 here.

Just some observations. I dont think this listing is particularly reliable given what happened to Primos height.

They probably are measuring shoeless which is the correct, apples to apples comparison and now official measuring standard of the NBA. NBA.com had Primo 6’4 shoeless last October so he probably is pushing 6’5 now.

Which means fans should adjust their expectations accordingly on what height they think players should be for certain positions i.e.,

if they thought a PF should be at least 6’9”, then they should be okay reading a player is 6’8” now
if they thought a SF should be at least 6’7”, then they should be okay reading a player is 6’6” now

Primo will likely handling point duties here since he knows the system best and the Spurs want to see where he’s taken his playmaking abilities

I think Wesley will be the primary ball handler on the second unit

I think Branham will be the leading scorer (not a bold prediction)

Yup exactly. He’s NBA ready right now and ready to contribute from day 1 imo. For the first time in forever it seems like the Kings made the right pick for Murray over Ivey. I think the Kings desperately need a player like Murray. Just calm, cool, and collective. Compared to the erratic players they have drafted recently.

Nah Sochan would be better. Keegan could be a better scorer, but Sochan would be a better all-around player. Maybe on this draft only Chet is better as far as being all-around. I hate to compare, but yes Timmy is so much better because he’s best all-around than a TMac or Vince Carter who could score more. That’s how I see Sochan, his impact on both sides of the court. And once Spurs develops his Point Forward skills even more, watch out how they redraft this batch years from now. Spurs really got something special on Sochan.

I didn't like just about any of the smaller guards in this draft. Not Ivey, not Davis (just to bug John B) - they all lacked ability to create with the ball (low A/36, low A/To ratio).

During the practices the summer Spurs have held before heading to Las Vegas, the rookies have caught the attention of their peers.

“They’re really good,” Primo said. “Blake is great offensively and defensively. And Malaki is really savvy. He knows how to get to his spots. He’s got some physical attributes that make him pretty special.”

The 3-and-D impact Branham provides will be the foundation of how he makes his impact in the NBA. As for Wesley, he needs to refine his shooting mechanics, but regardless, he's a highly explosive athlete who can make plays in the paint.

“I have been shooting a lot with Malaki, and he shoots the crap out of it,” Joe Wieskamp said. “The thing I like about (Wesley) is he sees the floor really well. There have been a couple of times where he is getting downhill, playing through traffic, and he’s able to kick out to shooters. I really like that about him.”

Wonder why the Spurs aren't playing Utah this year.

This is complete speculation on my part.

But I saw on twitter last night that we've yet to officially sign our rookies to their contract.

Now I don't know how salary cap is affected by their cap hold vs contract. But holding them out of Utah could be because we're tying to keep the max cap space available for as long as possible to help facilitate trades and what not.

I would imagine that the rooks will have officially inked the papers before they take court in Vegas.

Very similar but there's a pretty wide gap in confidence level...we'll just have to see how Kris responds playing on a team without his brother. Physically there's not much separating them..

They wouldn’t hold it up for that. They would hold it up for max cap room. There is a rookie scale, but you can pay between 80% and 120% of your slot amount.

I'm pretty sure that first round capholds are already set to the 120% rookie scale. It was changed to put an end to teams screwing around with rookies like the Spurs used to

Meh would need Charlotte to not only get in the playoffs, but also not be one of the two worst playoff teams to get their pick next year.
Doesn't matter if we're targeting Murray v2 as per rascal's desires. He'll be available WAY into the 2nd round...

People would've said something similar about Ivey before the season started...the point isn't to say that Murray v2 will go on the lottery or the 2nd rd...it's just to say that he's got a similar skillet and physical traits as his brother going into a season where he's more of a focal point...he's got a chance to go high...and he's got a chance to go low...but its not etched in stone by any means...

That's the whole point. At this moment, he's a guy averaging less than 10 points and 5 rebounds at almost 22 years old. So if anything, it's not me who's making a bold claim by going on the evidence we have at the moment, but whomever is proposing we pick him next year with a projected high first rounder with no other argument than the genetic semblance with his twin brother who got picked high this year.

I never said take him with a high first round pick, was just asking if his game was similar to his brothers(of course he isn't as good at this time) and taking him with charlotte's pick(outside the lottery) if his game was not too far off his brother's game.

Just 'cause they're twins doesn't mean they have the same game.
If they did, he'd be in the Lottery the same year.
Assuming they had the same upbringing...

And talent!
Talent comes in there somewhere.
Not sure where, but I think it's somewhere up front of the line.

There’s always a shittier twin or brother, and they usually wind up in Phoenix.

Is Keegan that much better than his twin brother Kris?

Kris will be in next year's draft. And the Spurs may have a shot at him with the Charlotte pick.

I didn't even know he had a brother. I don't follow college basketball at all. Maybe if I lived in the US I would, but since I don't, I don't really have time to follow it. Is he that much worse than his brother that he'll still be in the range the Spurs might be picking in?

Are you talking about the Morris twins? Can't recall any others, oh, just remembered the Lopez twins. As for the Morris twins, wasn't Markieff supposed to be the better of the two coming into the NBA? I always liked Marcus better, though, but maybe that is because he played in bigger games with better teams. Too bad he screwed the Spurs over as I thought he would have been a good fit with the team the year he was supposed to sign before pulling out.

Weirdly, both Keegan Murray and Johnny Davis had twin brothers who played with them. I think Davis's brother stayed in school.

Will the first two games be on a Youtube channel? 3 & 4 are on ESPN. Tried to add NBATV to my Directv, but you have to add several months. Ideas of where to watch appreciated.

There’s Horace and Harvey Grant, Jason and Jarrod Collins, there’s more but don’t know without searching.

Dick and Tom van Arsdale, for those who know their NBA history. They were drafted out of Indiana back to back, each made the All Rookie team and each was a three time All Star. They played their last season together in Phoenix.

I agree projecting Murray v2 as a lottery pick at this point is a bold statement as well..
