You are comparing teams with different physical makeup. Polska can't run around like a headless dog for 90 minutes. Just like evidently those teams can't defend like us. Those teams are notorious for cheap fouls for a reason.

Thank you

Many fans are feeling down and I'm not thrilled either. Didn't post anything about the match on social media. We did back into advancing but does anyone remember how we performed in 1986, the last time we advanced? The accomplishment remains.

I think we'll see a more adventurous team against France with now nothing to lose. This 3rd match was kinda a mindfuck of hypotheticals.

BUT I rather see Mich the manager not retained for the next WC process. We were forced into this hiring with Sousa quitting and we parlayed it to finally break a long WC streak of futility. But moving forward we shouldn't resort to just defending.

3rd game in '78 was Italy 1 - Argentina 0, no missed penalties (only game Argentina lost in that world cup)
3rd game in '86 was Argentina 2 - Bulgaria 0, no missed penalties

Oh for sure, but when you're in the quarterfinals you can expect any group winner, and in this WC you could have Brazil vs Spain, and France vs England. So even though I agree the Netherlands won't be a pushover, I'll take my chances with them over any of those 4.

The Netherlands are super overrated tbh. They're closer to Poland than they are to Argentina in terms of quality.

They also played in the easiest group of this WC. They should have won every single match and by wider margins than they did.

Yet, they struggled immensely to hold on to a draw against Ecuador.

They'll park the bus and try to force the penalty shootout but honestly, i don't see any scenario other than Argentina going through to the semi during regular time.

Tough to judge Argentina's quality. Polska did not attempt to challenge them and yet the match was still scoreless at Half.

Argies highlight of the group stage was against Mexico. Another match they couldn't score in the first 45 mins.

But ya that path to the SemiFinals is very favorable and Messi is racking up penalty shots.

on a side note, Griezman was not offside on this goal, VAR should not have refused the goal. Then VAR could not have intervened anyway... does not change shit but imagine the same shit in the final. One thing is sure this referee and VAR crew won't be part of the final :lol

Finally France put a formal claim which is dumb imho... let Tunisia with the win and no need to create a mess with FIFA

Fully agree with you.

France vs. Poland has the smell of France Paraguay in 98, weak team but strong goal keeper who is going to frustrate France offense. Then if we go through we go against England... the game I don't want to lose, I would rather take a loss against Poland than failing against England :lol

Judging a team because it took them until after halftime to score against 2 teams that pretty much parked the bus in front of their keeper, is not a very smart argument. Argentina's highlight of the tournament to this day was far and away yesterday, should have beaten Poland by 4 or 5, the difference between both teams was just ridiculous.
It's worth noticing as well that the game against the Saudis, though undoubtedly a poor showing by Argentina, was an aberration in that the Saudis shot twice and scored twice... you could give them 100 times the same opportunities and in he vast majority they'd fail to score once, let alone both times.
We've yet to see what would happen when we face a team that actually puts pressure on our defense but, all in all, I'm content mostly in that Argetina's team managed to get out of the hole they dug themselves into, injected some much needed new blood (Enzo Fernandez, Julián Álvarez, etc.), wasn't overly reliant on Messi (to a point), and played well overall.
Now if we can get Rodrigo De Paul, Lautaro Martínez, and Paulo Dybala to regain their usual form, and Di María and Romeros's health holds up, we might actually have a chance to go far in this tournament.

I remember that Paraguayan team, they looked much stronger than Poland did. If they let France handle the ball as much as they did Argentina, without putting any kind of pressure on the ball handlers, it'll take a miracle for France not to stomp over them.

I'm pretty much in favor of the inclusion of technology, but some of the use of VAR has been horrendous. The offsides haven't always been consistent, insignificant fouls taking a huge role in the outcome of matches... I was glad Argentina didn't win yesterday because of that penalty, if we lose a final because of one such penalty I'd feel like travelling to Zurich and torching FIFA's headquarters. There's got to be some judicious application of the rules, otherwise it does more harm than good.

If you are a top team, on ST, you have to be crap unless you win 3 straight all by 4 goals.

The WC play is not nearly as precise and coordinated as club soccer. It can’t be with the time spent playing together.
So almost everyone is shit I guess.

There clearly are teams with enough talent to run other teams ragged. Argentina is one of those teams. But because an aging Messi they must suck? Really? If They put it together for a game beware. They ran Poland ragged. And if people don’t think Messi is at least good, they failed to see some of the passes he made. He must be in that team, even at 35. Even missing penalties.

Its so easy to point out crappy so ST prefers the easy way. You would think people should hate this contest forever. Just watch the club teams, they practice together. The club teams also have many more choices in putting the proper parts together. Why even watch this competition if that’s the case?

Just watch the club teams, they practice together. The club teams also have many more choices in putting the proper parts together.
This is a major factor in European success, they usually field teams with a significant number of players coming from a couple clubs (Spain: Barcelona & Real Madrid, Germany: Bayern Munich, Italy: Juventus, Milan & Inter, etc) and that allows them to compensate for their lack of training with the NT, helping them be more cohesive than their South American counterparts.
The South American powerhouses usually reach the WC in sub optimal form, both physically and collectively, and with ever increasingly long calendars, that plays a significant part in their performance. For Argentina this is quite evident, in success (1978, 1986, 2014 -yes, reaching the finals is a success-) and failure (2002, 2010, 2018). Our players are usually scattered all over, and without the time to make up for it, more often than not we pay a steep price.

there is NO FKN way they have had the quality time like the club teams.
AND... they put players together on the field that play similar positions, unlike the club teams which try to pick them based on need positionally.

I said it's a major factor, not the only one. But among the top contenders in any sport, a small advantage is enough to put you over the top. And I'd say that obviously qualifies as such.

You have just been given evidence that club teams have far more practice time and ability to pick from a variety of players versus National Teams.

your response is no team will ever be at maximum. We have no fkn clue what maximum is.
Club teams are better prepared both in their makeup, practice time and often degree of physical fitness. You disagree.
Because you are an idiot.

There are much bigger factors. Such as talent, coach, organization, money, training grounds, etc.

International competition is not a level competition. Never will be. If I had the choice of having a team of same team club players vs a team of non same club plus messi. Guess who Ill pick :lol

I read that the Saudi's expected goal was 0,14 on that game. They got 2. :lol

If you're talking Brazil or Argentina vs Greece or Turkey, yeah, sure, talent plays a much bigger part. But when you're close enough on talent and fitness, practice time together makes a HUGE difference, particularly when all contenders (top 4/5 teams) are talented enough. I don't think 2002 or 2006 Germany was more talented than Argentina, TBH. And certainly their 2010 roster wasn't 4 goals above ours, talent wise. But their TEAM sure was.

Its a small factor IMO. Almost irrelevant as most of the big team players play in great club teams.

International competition has much much bigger problems to even waste a minute on this. But...

Jesus fkn Christ...

I was NOT saying that Qatar should be a great team because they play together.

I am comparing what you see in TEAM quality from countries with a lot of good players from their country, compared with their highly rated club teams.
You think France with Benzema could beat Real Madrid last year with Benzema?

Of course Qatar does not have the quality. You are completely daft. Of course OVERALL INDIVIDUAL quality is important. Thats not the comparison.

Tier1 Euro teams tend to come from the same clubs but Tier2 do not. It's rare for a number of their countrymen to share the same club and often one of their better starters is a club nomad.

Brazil is huge favorite tbh...

Spain is showing a lot of flaws, dat tiki taka near their goalkeeper gonna bite them in the ass
France has no depth with all the injuries, we have 12/13 competitive players the rest is trash
England.. well it's England
Argentina can go far but I don't see them taking down Brazil in a hypothetical semi
Portugal is a nice outsider but for me at this point CR7 is more a liability than a plus
Then a dark horse is always a possibility but I don't see any team with the tools to bother Brazil

Brazil depends a lot of Neymar, it has been a long time they don’t have such quality player. Some teams will also switch the turbo in elimination. It’s hard to judge by group phase.

2010 Spain was probably the biggest lock of all-time, tbh.

2018: France

Everything seems to be falling in place for Harden tbh

Easy path to the semi-final against weaker teams

Teammates carrying his choking ass after he choked yet another penalty

Refs keep gifting him non-existent penalties almost on a game to game basis now

Huge choke job if midget doesn't make at least the semi-final tbh imho ngl

:lmao imagine talking about easy routes when Portugal 2016 was the jammiest NT winner of the last 25 years. Wales in a semi final FFS, and a dire Poland team before it. Pepe was their best player that tourney, much like mascherano in 2014 for Argentina. Ronaldo got CARRIED in that final when he couldn't even play. When does play till the end they get knocked out by Uruguay.

So please, sit down, you're having a nightmare buddy.

I do agree, if Argentina don't make the semi finals it'll be a choke job. Spain, Brazil or France will beat them in the semis.

I have no problem having Brazil among the shortlist of candidates, but by no means are they the runaway favorites to win it all... they've had much more talented squads in the past, France, England, Spain, even Argentina can beat them (or lose to them) on any given day. I still have France no. 1, but could go a number of ways, TBH.

Germany had the core of arguably the best Bayern Munich team in history. It was kinda like what Spain had with Barcelona in 2010. Those that didn't have Germany as favourites knew very little, tbh.

I remember everybody saying Brazil just because they were locals, but I knew that Brazilian team was shit, specially after Neymar went down. I wanted that final vs Brazil so much. World Cup champions vs Brazil in Maracana. :(

That's not how it works, though. It doesn't matter if the bottom part of the ball is completely outside of the pitch, if any part of the circumference of the ball is inside the pitch, the ball is in play. On that aerial shot, you can see that the ball didn't leave the field on its entirety.
