He doesn't have any character concerns like Poole or issues with Miami's distractions. He just acts black and has a big dick.
He's on the block because he's the only proven asset the Heat have that can be parlayed into a better player that fits Butler's window.

Portland says they want four FRPs and two quality players.
Doesn't sound unreasonable as a starting position, really. I think they'll only get draft picks, or near draft picks, depending on what they consider Jovic and Jaquez to be. But at leat we have a structure.
Miami has two FRPs.
Jovic and Jaquez have to be the 'two quality players,' or close to it.
The shortfall has to come from transferring Herro and I suppose dumping Nurkic.

The NFL actually plays hardball with disgruntled players pretty regularly. NBA not so much. They don't need to do anything now but in a couple of month or so when TC starts they will have that fly in the ointment of a disgruntled star amongst his teammates.
I will be surprised if he plays as a Blazer no matter what the market is.

Yeah, Blazers are obviously posturing and trying to keep some value, I think they'd accept 4 FRPs and Jovic.
Right now Heat are probably trying to find someone dumb enough to give them 2 FRPs or a very good player for Herro.
I'm glad Spurs are not getting involved in this mess, I actually think Lowry would be a decent veteran for the Spurs, but that's about it.
I absolutely don't want Herro or Nurkic.

Okay, so now we know more specifically what PDX is looking for in the Lillard trade, 2 good young players and 4 firsts. Here is my best trade scenario for the Spurs. What do you think?
The trade would be KJ and Branham and cap relief and four 2024 & 2025 first round picks (one ATL pick) for Lillard and Nurkic. Giving them frps that are coming soon is ideal for PDX to build around Scoot now. Also, four second round picks included just cause they are getting more valuable these days. And we still have plenty of picks remaining for 2024 and 2025 draft so no worries that we are emptying our pick stash.

Man, imagine wasting all the good work Wright has done on a deal like that one :lol
Not picking on the poster, that might be about what it took for Portland to do the deal, but obviously it doesn't work for the Spurs.
I'm still interested in Herro, but only for the CHA pick.

Dude…
DJM return looking like highway robbery given what Lillard is likely to go for.

Lillard's also 33, and on a contract that is probably 3-4 times as much $$ as last year's 25 YO Dejounte. Portland is stupid to think that they can get the same return, especially in this desert of NBA FRPs. If they wanted to cash out, they needed to do it 2-3 years ago.

Spurs moved Murray right before the market collapsed. They sold the last tulip anyone could pay for.

There was still the Gobert and Mitchell trades after DJM, which at that point I think all other GMs looked around and said "yo this shit is crazy"
Wright definitely got a massive return in right before the door shut

To be fair Lillard gave 11 years to the Blazers without much complaining, but on the flipside, the mainstream media and fans trying to strong-arm Portland into giving up Dame to the Heat for some used hubcaps is becoming insufferable.

Yeah, Dame's prior "loyalty" probably sank the Blazers for a few years because I don't see them getting equal value. It will have to be another "unhappy star" for "unhappy star" swap for the Blazers to get anything impactful in return for that contract.
Portland setting the bar high in the beginning of negociations. That bar should go drop over time.

With us getting Wemby and having our solid young core along with Coach Pop, I think the Spurs are probably one of the very few teams that Dame could be like "Eff it, I'll show up" for. That's of course only hypothetical as I'm sure the is no trade in the works for Dame at all.

It's ironic that the team that has everything Portland requires doesn't want to blow their wad on a 33 YO guard making a bazillion dollars.

More picks than Portland is demanding and a stable of young players. Their GM must dream of the Spurs at night and wake up sad.

How far do you think a starting roster of Lillard/Vassell/Sochan/Wemby/Nurkic with the Michael Jordan of summer league (CHAMP) off the bench get this year lol? Playin? Playoffs? Contender? Let's assume Wemby has TD type numbers and impact!

Can we just get a real fucking point guard. I’m gonna be pretty pissed watching Wemby have easy at rim opportunities wasted away by lack of shot creators
Goodness Spurstalk trying to convince themselves that Jones is gonna be good for Wemby. Dude would have an extra 4-6 points a game from Chris Paul alone on our team

Interesting discussion on the Lowe podcast about teams who "do right" by their players and whether any team has ever actually reaped the benefits of having a reputation of being player friendly. The general consensus was no, and that even teams who have a reputation of being cut-throat with players (Boston was used as an example) haven't had that reputation stand in the way of FA attraction or team building.
Interesting discussion. Of course, one could make an argument that a team in a desirable place (LA, Miami, etc) can afford to be cut throat if they wanted, whereas a team like San Antonio or Portland doesn't need one more thing working against them.

Gotta disagree there. You don't remember how Anthony Davis wanted no part of a trade to Boston because he was pissed how they did Isaiah Thomas?

They brought up this specific example as the only one they could think of where maybe it impacted things, but really chalked it up to Davis only wanting to go to LA anyway. Interesting topic.

Boston was an interesting fit basketball wise for Davis but Davis' dad specifically told him to stay away from Boston because of how they did Isaiah.

The Spurs are always mentioned by players as a great franchise and a desirable place to land in (in part because they do have a history of "doing right" by their players, but come free agency period, marquee players rarely actually go here.
