Agreed.
Pop always says that he hates playing short-handed teams because they are like a wounded animal fighting to survive.
People shouldn't start to count their chickens concerning a Game 6 win.
Pop should slap himself upside the head for sending the tape in then :)

People who are saying the suspension is weak should go look at the tape.
It's a closed fist punch.
A punch = automatic suspension.
The league didn't have much choice on this.

Pop talks about not liking to play teams that are short handed because of letdowns. If the Spurs are going to let down in an elimination game they deserve to go fishing.
It's not just about a letdown, or the Mavs fighting harder. We have been playing the Mavs a certain way for 5 games and we are used to them, now that will undoubtedly change, and the Mavs are now an unknown quantity. It may be good for us, it may be bad.

I'd just like to point out...
Raja Bell getting suspended didn't excactly put the Lakers over the top...
If Dirk was suspended maybe it would be cause for a Fiesta in SA...Terry? He aint all that.
Whott, news flash: the Lakers aren't the Spurs.
Jason Terry put up 30 + points in one of the games we lost.
Spurs won't get overconfident in an elimination game on the road. If they lose (which I don't think they will), it won't be due to overconfidence.
If being without Terry is better for the team (as some here seem to suggest), why doesn't Cuban get rid of him or Avery keep him on the bench. I mean Cuban and Avery both want to win, don't they? So, apparently they seem to feel that having Terry on the court and playing enormous minutes benefits them. Do you really think that the Mavericks without Terry are better than or equal to the Mavericks with Terry?
Anyone really believe that and want to try to defend that? Any intellectual gymnists present?

I always want a full-strength team. Now if/when the Spurs win game 6, this place will go bonkers with Mavs trolls saying 'the fix is in' or 'wait till you beat the whole team', shit like that. I am tired of people saying the Spurs should have asterisks next to their titles.
You still get bothered by that? Three titles in seven years, yet fans of teams who have never won anything can get to you by impugning championships they could only experience in their wettest, wildest dreams?
The inferiority complex is strong in this one.
In the event this happenstance turned the series in the Spurs' favor toward an ultimate 7-game victory, would you not enjoy the schadenfreude accompanying the spectacle of Mavfan, having thought he grasped at long, long last sweet victory over his team's nemesis, the summit after much grinding toil finally climbed, the view ahead at end unencumbered, not just to see such triumph fumbled away, but to regard it as brutally pried away from their steadfast grip by the game's very arbiters, with the concomitant gnawing sense of powerlessness and rage?
Would you not enjoy their rending internal conflict between their love for the game and inability to turn away from it, and their gut-wrenching disgust at the injustice they would feel had befallen them? Shouldn't your endorphins flow all the more as they seethe and their teeth grind to powder?

Dallas’ Jason Terry Suspended for Game 6
NEW YORK, May 18 – Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks has been suspended one game without pay for punching San Antonio’s Michael Finley, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Senior Vice President Basketball Operations.
The incident occurred with 3.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks 98-97 loss to the Spurs last night at AT&T Center. Terry will serve his suspension Friday night as the Mavericks host the Spurs for Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

1 if that even happened, we have no idea if that was intentional since if it more than possible that Michael lost his balance while trying to get a jump ball situation. 2 An intentional punch is an automatic suspension. 3 It was to the groin, a very sensitive area for us guys 4 Michael was extremely upset which he would not have been, had he initiated it. Bruce had to restrain Michael.
All of those points show that there is not any basis for penalty for Michael.
Apparently, NBA agrees since Michael has not been fined or suspended.

You oversimplfy things...
Jason Terry is not an immortal...he's capable of having a big game, he's also capable of sucking...
Thats like asking if Lou Gehrig was so great how come he couldn't beat out Wally Pipp.
You act like coaches never decide to yank players for shitty play, or players never beat out other players late in the season...
Haven't you ever seen Tony or Manu's ass get yanked from a game for shitty play?
How come Robert Horry and his 6 rings and playoff resume can't get off the bench?
Jason Terry is not essential for the Mavs to beat us...and if he's having an off night, he may indeed make it easier for us to win...
This suspension could help us...it could also hurt us depending on what the unknowns playing behind him do. For all we know Terry just started his last game as a Mav...Unlikely but...it's not like Terry is Jordan...he wasn't that great last night.

For all we know Terry just started his last game as a Mav...Unlikely but...it's not like Terry is Jordan...he wasn't that great last night.
whott: This logic does not make sense. I'm sure that you are smarter than this.
We are looking at the most likely course of events here. It seems to me that it is likely that Terry would benefit the Mavs more in game 6 at home than that he would hurt them.
What is more likely to occur? Terry plays and helps them more than he hurts them or Terry plays and hurts them more than he helps them.
Is it not completely obvious that the former is much more likely than the latter?
My comments were not an oversimplification. Since neither of us know the future, we have to contemplate what is the more likely course of events. It seems clear that it is more likely that Terry's play would help them more than hurt them.
Getting to work often is heavily dependent upon having a car. However, I may get in a car accident and die. Therefore, if I lost my car, it really is a good thing.
Interesting method of reasoning.
Seems arbitrary to say that Terry is not a serious loss to them unless you believe that Terry is a borderline mediocre player.
I don't believe that. I think he is a punk, but does have good basketball skills.
Do you really think that Terry is a borderline mediocre player??
If so, I disagree and I think most fans would also disagree with you (regardless of team preference).
If not, then your line of reasoning must apply to Dirk. But then it proves too much. For your method of reasoning has as its logical conclusion that losing Dirk would not be a serious blow to the team (most of the time- yes I know about the 2003 series-- but you may win the lottery once- that does not mean that it makes sense to play it continually because the odds are against you). Since, if your line of reasoning is true, it proves too much then your premise must be mistakes. (proof by contradiction) q.e.d.

You aren't allowed to punch.
Suspension is the consequence.
Here is the exact wording from the NBA rule book:
" Violent acts of any nature on the court will not be tolerated. Players involved in altercations will be ejected, fined and/or suspended."
Which is why Terry should be suspended (if you think it was a punch), and also why Fin should be too.

Point is definitely not that it makes a win more certain.
My point is that, most of the time, this scenario helps us more than it hurts us.
I think that we will win. However, the Mavericks are a very good basketball team, especially at home, even without Terry. So, it is quite possible that we will lose even though Terry won't play. Perhaps I view it is as 51 % chance of winning prior to the suspension and 52 % after the suspension (since I said that I think that we will win).
I think that this scenario does improve our odds of a victory (by how much I could not say). Whatever the odds were of our victory with Terry playing game 6, they are slightly better with Terry out.
For example, (removing the part where I said that I believe that the Spurs will win) our odds prior to the suspension could have been 30 %. With the suspension, they could be 32 %. All I claim is (again leaving out my belief that we would win the game with Terry playing) that most of the time, our odds of winning are better and that if we played 200 games with Terry playing in 100 of them and Terry not playing in the other hundred, I believe that we would win more of them when he does not play. Could be that we just win 1 more.
If the above reasoning is correct, then our odds of winning would be better without Terry playing.
Anything can happen in a game. Dampier could go for 50 points and 20 boards. Could happen. Anomalies do definitely happen. Don't bet on and expect singular events unless you've got money to burn.

Would love to see a 7 game series between #1 and #2 titans of Western Conference.
And my wish might have come true. Terry Suspension might do this.
Upon viewing the video pausing and replaying the dang small screen.
If you want to make igorrant fans comments please use another thread.
I concluded this as I posted in couple of Mavs forum........
First of all, I am not a mavs fan or spur fan. I love all NBA Team
I know JT is most religious/god loving guy so he woundn't do anything cheap.
After watching the video. Yes, no doubt he punched or fist waving saying get the hell off me, only JT knows that. MAY BE he punched intentionally OR he just wanted finely to get off him and he didn't know he was goin to hit finley "sensitive tool" i think finely overreacted and somebody in spurs office send the video to NBA league. I also want add that EVANS case grabing the nuts was more intentional than this and the league didn't do anything about it.
That said, I think MAVS team needs to be motivate from this accident and try to win the series. And at the same time SPURS needs to play hard and win the game. I am sure tommorrow official would be calling the game tight and would call each and every foul because of this accident. Who would take the benefit we will see tomorrow night :elephant
Good Luck to all MAVS and Spurs Fan. It would be a great game 6 AND may be game 7. :king :spin

There have been several posts here regarding the Reggie Evans incident. Reggie Evans was not suspended, however, Don Harris said that David Stern was on an airplane when the decision was made. He said that if he hadn't been traveling, he would have demanded that Reggie be suspended.
So there you go, Reggie should have been suspended and Jason is - no problem!

Anyways, the Suns found a way to win after losing Bell. If the Mavs are the second coming as Mavs fans have been trumpeting then losing Terry shouldn't be that big of a deal.
Spurs>>>Lakers. That is not a fair comparison. The mavs need everyone to beat the spurs. Terry plays the whole game for a reason. No one else can space the floor at the guard position.

Here is the exact wording from the NBA rule book:
" Violent acts of any nature on the court will not be tolerated. Players involved in altercations will be ejected, fined and/or suspended."
Which is why Terry should be suspended (if you think it was a punch), and also why Fin should be too.
Mav fans are such self-parodies when it comes to understanding basketball sometimes you think they're actually Spur fans trying to make actual Mav fans look bad. I mean, nobody could really be this dumb, could they?
Anyway, HERE is the exact rule:
Section V.l: A player, coach or trainer must be
ejected for: (1) A punching foul
And just for good measure
(4) An attempted punch which does not
make contact
And just in case that's not enough, there's another entire section devoted to it:
Section IX—Punching Fouls
a Illegal contact called on a player for
punching is a personal foul and a team
foul. One free throw attempt shall be
awarded, regardless of the number of
previous fouls in the period. The ball
shall be awarded to the offended team
out-of-bounds on either side of the
court at the free throw line extended
whether the free throw is successful or
unsuccessful.
b. Any player who throws a punch,
whether it connects or not, has
committed an unsportsmanlike act. He
will be ejected immediately and
suspended for a minimum of one game.
c. This rule applies whether play is in
progress or the ball is dead.
d. In the case where one punching foul
is followed by another, all aspects of the
rule are applied in both cases, and the
team last offended is awarded
possession on the sideline at the free
throw line extended in the frontcourt.
e. A fine not exceeding $35,000 and/or
suspension may be imposed upon such
player(s) by the Commissioner at his
sole discretion.
But wait, there's MORE:
K. PUNCHING, FIGHTING AND
ELBOW FOULS
Violent acts of any nature on the court
will not be tolerated. Players involved in
altercations will be ejected, fined and/or
suspended.
Officials have been instructed to eject a
player who throws a punch, whether or
not it connects, or an elbow which
makes contact above shoulder level. If
elbow contact is shoulder level or
below, it shall be left to the discretion of
the official as to whether the player is
ejected. Even if a punch or an elbow
goes undetected by the officials during
the game, but is detected during a
review of a videotape, that player will be
penalized.
There is absolutely no justification for
fighting in an NBA game. The fact that
you may feel provoked by another
player is not an acceptable excuse. If a
player takes it upon himself to retaliate,
he can expect to be subject to
appropriate penalties.

So shut the fuck up and deal with it. You can't punch a player in the junk and get away with it, just like you can't clothesline a guy and expect to, even in the postseason.

First Giniboli falls on top of him and then Finley falls on his head. So what is he suppose to do? From what I saw, Terry had very little room to do any damage. Was that even a legitimate punch? I understand that last night's game was very heated and emotions were running high - however, Terry has only himself to blame for the suspension.
Michael Finley did not even talk about the incident after the game - Coach Pop said he wasn't even aware of it happening. But the video guys brought it to their attention and the tape was sent to the league for review.
Mavs fans have a right to be pissed, but don't be pissed at David Stern - be pissed at Jason Terry for pulling such a boneheaded stunt at such a crucial point in the playoffs.
Speaking of bonehead - wanna guess that Jason Terry will be up for the bonehead of the week on Sports Sunday?

Finley doesn't even land on him hard, he is propped on his elbow, and then makes sure to sell the fact that he has his hands on the ball. Cuban on Terry Suspension: "It's not right"
Mark Cuban, the Mavericks' owner, made the following comments in response to Terry's suspension in an e-mail sent to ESPN on Thursday.
"It's not right, and I told the league so.
"It's certainly not consistent with what the league has done in the past.
"Jason responds to a guy hipchecking him in the head while he is on his back and can't protect himself and he gets suspended. You can't throw a punch while you are on your back and someone is laying on you.
"If Jason had tried to get him off with an open hand, or an elbow, we wouldnt be talking about this at all. Look at [Manu] Ginobli in the replays, he is staring at everything that happens and doesn't respond at all, but all the while you can see the grimace on Jason's face.
"The league also said they didn't know if the [Michael] Finley piledriver with his hip to Jason's head while Ginobli was lying on him was intentional or not. So they couldn't do anything about it.
"Unbelievable. When it's all (said) and done, this series could end up being talked about for all the wrong reasons."
That is a bunch of fucking gay ass bullshit.

Right...the Lakers were a team that was up 3-1 in a series in which they did not have HCA...we are a team that was down 1-3 in a series in which we do.
Your argument appears to be that the Lakers were up 3-1 against the Suns.
In game 5 (or 6) ?, Raja Bell did not play due to suspension. But the Suns won anyway. Therefore, since the Mavs are as superior to the Spurs as the Suns were to the Lakers, the loss of a good player on the Mavs team does not mean that the Mavs will lose.
This argument has so many flaws that it is difficult to know where to start. I will make a beginning. First, do you believe that most of the time the Suns would beat the Lakers in that same situation? If so, Raja Bell should not play for the Suns whenever they play the Lakers. If not, then what occurred was an anomaly. Pick your poison.
Second, you can't pick and choose your analogies selectively.
Third, it is premature to believe that the Mavs are so much better than the Spurs that losing a good player on their team is of no negative consequence for them whatsoever.
The Suns beat the Lakers without Raja Bell; therefore the Mavericks will beat the Spurs without Jason Terry.
Are you just making this up as you go along? Shall we construct a truth table on this. Is it always the case that whenever the Suns beat the Lakers without Raja Bell that the Mavericks beat the Spurs without Jason Terry? Does the first statement always imply the second statement?
This entire line of reasoning is pure unadulterated speculation at this point since it is quite apparent that no cause effect relationship exists between the two propositions.
We don't know that the Mavericks are better than the Spurs. That's yet to be decided. They won game 2 largely due to scheduling (by drawing a team that has never won a single playoff game in their entire history and by the Spurs drawing a tough physical Kings team ). It was our 3rd game in 5 nights. Games 3 and 4, I believe were gifts from the referees and very close. In previous years, Spurs have 3 trophies and are the defending world champs. Mavs have not gotten to the NBA Finals ever (and this is not Dirk's first year playing for the Mavs).

My main point is that in cities with one team in town (Green Bay, Utah, Sacramento, etc) the media is often more limited due to there being less outlets and is more cheerleader than in other cities. In fact, I was listening to KTKR the other day and there topic was the best way to hurt Dirk more. It was weird, and not a topic you would hear on one of the Dallas radio stations. Its just a different feel.

Tim D, Elton Brand, Shane Battier... basically people who didnt go to college just to train for the NBA. People with some resemblense of intelligence. And... No Nazi's allowed.
Uh, okay. But your original post was still way offensive.
And you just seriously owned yourself in this one.

Dallas ESPN Radio kept repeating that Terry did not deserve a suspension because Reggie Evans was not suspended for grabbing Chris Kaman's nuts during the Clipper-Nugget series.
And they'd know the difference.

Dude, what the hell? I'm listening to this radio show.
Oh man, I'm so happy for the way our organization is run. I think I understand so much more why Mav's fans are all bastards who think they're owed something. Sweet.

I wasn't aware that numerous Spurs fans posted that. I recall it being one douchebag. Seriously, do Mavs fans even read or think before posting?
