The NBA should suspend itself for as long as it takes for David Stern to kill over so a real commisioner can come in and restore the league from WWE to NBA again.

Cuban: "...if he rubs his nose with a closed fist, he punched himself according to the league definition"

Got to admit of all the owners only Mark could come up with inferring Terry might be rubbing Finley's ball with a closed fist.

As much as I hate David Stern, he brought the NBA back into the public eye. Do you remember the small amount of games shown back in the day?

I wasn't aware that numerous Spurs fans posted that. I recall it being one douchebag. Seriously, do Mavs fans even read or think before posting?

Dallas ESPN Radio kept repeating that Terry did not deserve a suspension because Reggie Evans was not suspended for grabbing Chris Kaman's nuts during the Clipper-Nugget series.

Again, if David Stern had been in New York instead of on an airplane, Reggie Evans would have been suspended!

why did terry punch him in the nuts anyway? he couldnt have done it for no reason. im not a mavs or spurs fan so i havent analyzed the play over and over.

Why? I don't know. Maybe he has a thing for guys? Either way, why isn't a factor in this suspension. He punched him with a closed fist. There's no talking your way out of this. Its in the rulebook as an automatic suspension. They didn't ask Tyson why he bit of Evander's ear did they? Maybe he was just hungry or has an ear fettish. Who cares? They didn't take into account Raja Bell's reason for knocking Kobe over (and trust me, in that series, he had reason). I could gone, but the point is, rules are rules. It doesn't matter why he did it. If you want to ask why after plays, then games would go on for 10 days because you'd have to ask after every stupid foul by a player.

Also, I sent Mr. Cuban an email. Anyone think he'll actually respond?

Yeah like that would make sense. The right thing to do is for Cuban to announce something that hurts his team? He would have to be really fucked up to do that. Defending your team from getting the screws is normal.

geez... who has time to read all these posts? i tried... and failed.

i will say this... i cant see the video clearly but if the League deemed it... its done.
it wont be taken back. im sure there was some kind of hit if Finley reacted the way he did, he doesnt just blow his fuse for nothing. but that doesnt mean I like it.

terry made a stupid mistake. it cost him the opportunity to play wonderfully at home in front of his home crowd. his fault, i cant be mad at nobody but him. but... if it goes seven games (im not sure it will - bc the Mavs seem to play well undermanned) i look for jet to have a great game. if it comes down to seven games....

i cant say this is necessarily a good thing for either team. the Mavs might come out ready to win and might succeed.

i still dont think anyone should be too cocky when it comes to this game 6. its still up for grabs, still anybody's game.

-He is bringing up an elbow by Kobe on Howard.

That the Mavs biggest X-factor is out of the biggest game, the deciding game, of the series. The Spurs have just been given a golden opportunity.

And don't tell me that ist not the deciding game, because if SA wins theres no way in hell that Dallas can recover.

Well, the odds are still against us. Only 8 teams have done it, Detroit being on of them. And the Mavs are much better than the Magic. A lot of people thought the Spurs would destroy the Kings in Game 2 but it took an incredible shot from Brent Barry.

My point is, sometimes teams come out more fired up and elevate their games.

Bullshit. I live in Austin and I can count 10+ times this year FSW carried the Mavs game when the Spurs and Mavs were playing on the same night. And our local WB station carried the occasional Spurs game. But most of the time unless the Spurs games were being carried by a network, Austinites got screwed.

Just getting in, here is my take. If this is Mr. Stern's way of making up to us for the game 3 and 4 debacles then the Association is in a sad state of affairs. This suspension does indeed give them conspiracy fuel for the fire and they will play it up. But as I mentioned before, Mr. Cuban in his blog questioned league office policies in the first place. He even admitted that he was a whiner in one of his blog posts.

Having said all that, let's take advantage of the situation and bring the series back to SA.

Whatever. Calling a foul on Bowen for doing NOTHING in game 4 was unfair. Calling a foul on Duncan when he had his feet set outside the circle for a full two seconds before Dirk barreled into him was unfair. Calling a 6th foul on Duncan for Dirk stepping on his foot was unfair. Calling a 6th foul on Manu for Terry jumping backward into him was unfair. Dirk falling out of bounds and the refs saying Barry tripped him was unfair. The two delay of game Ts were unfair.

Mark Cuban sez:

"Unbelievable," Mavs owner Mark Cuban wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press. "Michael Finley does a pile driver with his hip to Jason's head while he is on the ground. Jason is on his back with Ginobili laying on top of him."

"No question he tried to get Finley off of him and he should be fined for that. But to suspend him is questionable."

Why is Cuban using a pink font? Tough guys type in pink?

For some reason, the radio link kept on going to commercial and it would comeback with Cuban talking in midstream so I'm not sure if this totally accurrate.

But I think Cuban said Stern had a problem with the decibel level of the music and PA system in the AA when he went to game four. Stern made the Mavs check the decibel levels to make sure they were within NBA limits. Cuban said he thinks the Commish has never been to an arena as loud as the AA.

Also, a fan asked a question about the foul calls TD was getting about the Mav's bigs. He said that if TD says, "excuse me," he draws a foul. He never once mentioned Dirk's ability to draw fouls though.

After listening to him, I understand why Mav Fans are such a-holes. Thank god Peter Holt stays in the background.

05-18-2006, 08:37 PM
Just saw the video from several angles on NBA tv and ESPN and ran it slo-mo. Terry definitely punched Fin in the stomach area but it was in such close quarters, it wasn't that hard of a hit. Fin's midsection certainly moves upward but it wasn't thrown from a position of leverage. Fin doesn't pile-drive Jason. He reaches down and grabs the basketball and falls down and makes contact with Jason's head with his rear. Terry reacts by punching upward into the mid-section.

It was a weak punch as a reaction but since the NBA has a closed fist rule, Jason is at their mercy. Do I think it's fair. No. A fineable offense, maybe.

I guess I'm a little old school but if it's not something that could really injure someone if the punch connects, maybe you fine him. The reaction was the same as Bowen kicking Allen as a retaliation frustration move.

I understand that last night's game was very heated and emotions were running high - however, Terry has only himself to blame for the suspension.

Michael Finley did not even talk about the incident after the game - Coach Pop said he wasn't even aware of it happening. But the video guys brought it to their attention and the tape was sent to the league for review.

Mavs fans have a right to be pissed, but don't be pissed at David Stern - be pissed at Jason Terry for pulling such a boneheaded stunt at such a crucial point in the playoffs.

Why don't you wait until you've actually won ANY title before you try talking smack about an * win. Also, there are tons of Spurs fans who'd rather play them at full strength.

Cuban also said just because Terry's hand was closed, doesn't mean it was a punch.
I know it's been said before but :lol

This thread is a classic simply for the Mav fans posts trying to argue about varying degrees of nut punches. He got punched in the friggin nuts, people! I have internal ovaries and I know that shit hurts. WTF!?
:lol At this point, it's whatever makes them feel better.

Ever since Cuban took over ownership of the Mavs he's been pushing for the league to improve the quality of the officiating and enforcement of the rules...publicly.

At the end of the day this episode begins and ends with Jason Terry.
He sure isn't doing himself any favors with his current tirade. Yes, by all means, defend your players. But man up when they're wrong. If you want better officiating, good calls will go against you at times too.

And I couldn't agree more. Dallas fans should be mad at Terry, not the NBA, not Stern.

For every Mavs fan that is saying this is BS, can I come punch you in the nuts and then ask you again what you think of the suspension?
:lol Let us know if you get any volunteers!

"Unbelievable. When it's all (said) and done, this series could end up being talked about for all the wrong reasons."
Yeah, and it starts with this. There hasn't been any talk about the the officiating in previous games. And how he sees this as a wrong when the rules are written in black and white is beyond me.

yeah im listening to grant napear on 1140 and he think stu jackson isnt qualified for his job and that this is one of the best series in a long time and stu just messed it up. he said they should just let the guys play.

They should have let the guys play from the get-go. This series would have been classic for all of the right reasons, instead of all of the wrong ones.

Dallas fans, face it. He broke a rule. He was suspended. It's black and white. He fucked up. It's his fault.

It will still be a great Game 6. Look forward to seeing you back here for Game 7.

Thanks for a balanced synopsis. I couldn't see that level of detail on the web video I saw -- I could just see his arm move up for a punch.

Make up rules? What? Hip checking/piledriving someones head into the floor is suspendible. Those are the set rules. You can't just ignore the side of the infraction on your teams side. Oh wait, I forgot certain sets of fans seem to apply the double standard on a consistent basis.

There you go. Expect Mav fans to start using Cuban's exact words.

ALL SPURS FAN, you see the ref is not against the SPURS.

He could have just shoved Finley away.

that's the prowrestling equivalent, a piledriver has many forms, and I think it's meant in a somewhat literal sense in this instance in that fin piled onto terry, driving his head into the ground. But that was accidental contact, not winding up a balled fist and throwing it into another players crotch.

Terry has been suspended before this incident. He was suspended for one game and fined $10,000 for throwing a punch and fighting with Don Reid. He was suspended for one game without pay for elbowing Anthony Johnson. And it looks he was suspended for sneaking a punch against a Rocket player but I couldn't find the details of that melee.

I don't see this giving Dallas the emotional edge that Artest's suspension gave Sacramento. The Kings attitude was they had nothing to lose, and they played loose and almost stole one in game 2 because of it. Dallas has everything to lose. They're under a tremendous amount of pressure tomorrow.
