Besides being impossible to quantify, those notions are also wrong. Were they not trying in Game 7 vs. Dallas? Or in the 0.4 game? What about in 00 without Timmy in the playoffs? No, they lost because they weren't the better team.

I think we are winessing the end of an era. With the new rules, and all the great youth in the NBA at the moment, you just can't win with slow, old guys any more, no matter how smart they are.
