True and good point, the Mexican Spurs has a good ring to it lol.

Jk Spurs aren't going anywhere don't they have a lease till like 2026?
i think the lease was extended through 2032 with the $100 million renovation of the arena by the city of San Antonio.

As usual, you don't know what you don't know. Save your smirky little comments for the college kids. They don't play with me.

The Holt family is the heart and soul of the Spurs organization. Peter had a passion for it - the others, not so much. His absence has changed things within the ownership group already. By the way you represent yourself, you must know at least a few of them. Ask.

Not only that, but the SA city government has gone ape crazy, and is becoming steadily less business-friendly. And they are increasingly looking for ways to make businesses jump like puppets. I don't have any knowledge that the Spurs are looking to make an exit, but I know other companies who have started discussions.

You're a child. You know a bit about basketball, but you're a child.
you admit you have no knowledge of anything.

    You're working off pure emotion.

The Holts are not majority owners. They can sell their stake at any time.

You don't know who the other owners are so you can't make claims about their passion or commitment.

The SA city government barely matters at all since the lease is set until 2032 and the agreement is with Bexar County which owns the arena, not the city. That is the most basic fact to know here and you didn't know it.

Things can change as the lease comes closer to expiring, but this kind of speculation is pretty baseless. The current arena deal is just that good for SS&E. It could be as simple as their coming to the conclusion it's more profitable to book events other than Stars and Rampage games for those ~55 dates per year.

People in this thread keep forgetting the spurs have a lease....
    Until 2032....
    For the next 12 years...
That was just recently signed a few years ago...
That is extremely friendly to SS&E...
That was tied to a $100+ million renovation of the ATT Center

But I’m sure the county will let them out of their recently signed lease, and lose their anchor tenant on a building they just invested an extra 100+ million in.

Crap on the source if you like, but jettisoning a money-loser is Occam's razor for this sale.

There is very little do entation on this-
    Best I can find
Peter and Julianna Hawn Holt became the Spurs’ largest shareholders in 1996. They are believed to own about 40 percent of the team, which would mean their share of the Spurs is worth about $620 million after Forbes valued the team at nearly $1.6 billion last year.
Anyone aware of any other major shareholders?, I always assumed that no one was close to that, but...

Makes sense. Thanks. But that makes ownership's willingness to suffer what the Old Asshole is doing to the Spurs that much more enigmatic.

I wonder how much brain damage does it take to seriously believe there's a chance the Spurs are relocated. Like, seriously, there's absolutely no argument for it beyond the cliff-jumping es on this rotten forum. Was paint sniffing a pastime of yours by any chance, OP?
Spur fans will not support a losing team. They are good as gone if they sink into the lottery for a few years.

By distance. If they were doing it over again today, they wouldn't put these three teams this close to each other. Same reason Jerry Jones does everything in his power to keep an NFL team from coming to San Antonio. (And why it will never happen.)

Why do you think pro sports teams blackout games, and why do you think the NBA bases it on a 150 mile radius? The NBA is all about BRI. Anything that they believe will reduce it, they prevent. And they orchestrate anything they believe will increase it. It's business, and I'm not knocking it. But if they believe that moving the Spurs would increase overall BRI? They will help make it happen.
New York, New Jersey and Phil are close.

Nah they will probably still be in SA. I live in Charlotte and the Hornets have had attendance for years along with perennial mediocrity and they are still here. The Spurs relocating is just a fantasy trolls in here have since there is nothing left to troll about.

Also at the fantasy of moving the Spurs to Austin. I'm not from SA or Texas so I don't have a sentimental connection to the city but I do find it funny how some people believe in here if the Spurs move to Austin that it will help them get big time FAs. When in reality major FAs don't give a about any locations outside of NYC/LA/Bay Area/Miami.

If you look into David Robinson ownership stake, 1.88 Share of the Spurs, he bought if from The Former President Jack Diller(preceding POP) of the San Antonio Spurs and this was given to him has a part of the compensation package when the group bought the Spurs from the ownership group that purchased the Spurs From McCombs in 1994 from between $75-85 million. There are dozens of small shareholders like that that buy and sell in and out of the "group" all the time.

When Red McCombs sold the team in 1994 he sold them to a large group of San Antonio Businesses. At that time, the Retired General Robert F. McDermott was the CEO of USAA, and he gathered a group of local San Antonio Businessmen to get the money together to get a loan to finance the purchase of the Spurs. There were between 20 and 30 in the group, with USAA being the largest and most influential of the consortium, which included the Holt family. Usaa and Mcdermott were so dominant in the group that it was He who brought an assistant coach who was never an executive and made him President of the Spurs to replace Diller who was a disaster. He did this because he was able to vet Pop's Airforce Academy credentials and Military Career with other Influential Generals whom Greggors had come across over the years.

Over the years, as his business became more and more profitable and I believe his wife came from money, the Holts bought out USAA raising their stake to 40%. I think its more because at some point Clear Channel Sold off their % share to them and I believe at the time of the consortium take over they were the 2nd largest stakeholder behind USAA.

Al Davis and later his family only own 47% of the Raiders. Al was a small majority stakeholder for decades. He did what the when the he wanted with the Raiders over the decades, no matter what % ownership he had, which he built up to 47% over the years just like the Holts. Donks and Idiots like ChumpDumper and their little missives are just that because if you go through his 100k post, it's filled with the banalest dumb ass takes like in this thread so he can DUMP "CHUMPS."

As if a super majority owner cant do what the they want in an organization. Its called the prisoner's dilemma which means people and organizations act in there own self interest. If a Billionaire come and offers to buy out the spurs there is never going to be enough minority share holders to stop a super majority from ding what they want because they want the monnies.

Ok David Robinson and who else is standing int their way. in re that Chumpy
    so angry

Me calling you a donk and re is not and expression of emotion. Its an empirical conclusion anybody will come to from reading 1 or the 10's of thousands of post you made like the one I'm responding to chumpy.

So your take is the Spurs will be sold and the name changed after a move? This is your actual call and not part of another tantrum? Where is the team going? When?

Austin is slightly closer to Houston by actual miles, but San Antonio to Houston is probably a shorter drive time. Austin is about 75 miles closer to Dallas, but drive time from San Antonio to Dallas is made worse because of the necessity of driving through Austin - a notoriously congested stretch of interstate.
