i was pretty disappointed we only got one snow day here all season... not this is exactly blizzard country but there was supposed to be considerably more. having come from a place where it literally never snows, i was looking forward to that change of scenery

The Obama White House Warned Trump In 2017 About A Potential Global Pandemic

Just before Donald Trump took office in 2017,

officials in the Obama White House warned Trump’s team about

the need to plan for the very type of pandemic that is now wreaking havoc around the globe.

officials briefed the incoming administration on a scenario remarkably like the one he faces now.”

two-thirds of Trump officials who were briefed on the matter are no longer in the administration,

which is likely one reason why the president has managed this current crisis so badly.

We had a snow in Austin. I spent enough time in the frozen tundra this year, don't need more.

we're far enough from DC and far enough from the coast where the major storms rarely hit here. we do get a decent amount of thunderstorms and a tree did crush a car next door to us (all the trees around us have since been cut). but power outages are uncommon and here within the city, they do a good job of getting things back up pretty quick. if i was in the outskirts or in more rural areas, yeah i'd easily invest in a generator.

only thing i really have at this point as countermeasure is my car jumpstarter that also has USB charging ports

Yeah everyone told me when I moved from dallas to DC “Just wait until you get those northeastern winters, you’ll really miss Dallas!” and the winter in DC was extremely mild this year.

    Social distancing works

it does its pretty damn effective

    it sucks tho

hopefully w the heat it goes away so we can have social lives and when next wave comes we hibernate again

    that beats other scenarios

we will have about 3 or 4 waves of this before we have a good drug to combat it

I dont believe in the vaccine fantasy

i mean dont get me wrong, within our first month of moving here we saw a tree fall and crush our neighbor's car ... thunderstorms here are much worse than anything i ever experienced in LA. and i mean not even close. but luckily Cville is far enough inland where we dont quite get the hurricanes

while we have had some power outages, the worst we had was ~3 hours. for those who live within the city or near the main roads, they do a good job of getting things back up. i asked my neighbors about it during that one big outage and they said it was really an exception, and its quite rare for outages to exceed an hour

same with plowing roads if there is snow. bigger issue is for people who have to commute to the city.

yeah, we cant be expected to bunker down until a vaccine is ready for mass distribution ... im hoping the heat drives it away, but we will see. nothing certain yet.

Commuting from the more southwestern parts of Fairfax County to DC on a daily basis seems ing awful. I know a few people who do it and I’d hate having to spend that much time driving every day.

Well, he enacted travel ban from China at the end of Jan.
Can't have containment and quarantines without travel restrictions. Wonder what caused DJT to lose sight of the ball.

My fear with social distancing, though it's still a better outcome, is that the powers that be say "oh look, it's not nearly as big a problem as some thought" and they scale back the attack which almost, not quite, but almost makes it just as bad as the alternative.

Federal officers seize fake COVID-19 test kits at Los Angeles International Airport

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Los Angeles International Airport intercepted a package containing suspected counterfeit COVID-19 test kits arriving from the United Kingdom, officials said Saturday.

Officers working in the airport’s international mail facility on Thursday discovered six plastic bags containing numerous vials in a parcel labeled “Purified Water Vials,” authorities said in a prepared statement.

After further examination, the officers found vials filled with a white liquid and labeled “Corona Virus 2019nconv (COVID-19)” and “Virus1 Test Kit,” authorities said. The shipment was then turned over to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for analysis.

They don't test. They're scared of losing the Olympics.
