I wouldn't call it desperation, I'd call it tone deafness and groupthink. 63% of Democrats wanted to hear from AOC, 38% wanted to hear from Kasich, but the Clinton-era Democratic Party is convinced milquetoast establishment candidates win elections vs. anti-establishment idealists who drive enthusiasm (btw, Kasich couldn't help himself from getting in a pissing match with AOC, which kinda hurts the "united party" message they're trying to convey). They still don't understand that ORANGE MAN BAD isn't a good enough reason in and of itself for solid liberal voter turnout. Take Jimmy Dore for example - whatever their opinion is of him, he has 790k followers on youtube, most of which are left leaning adults with at least some interest in politics. Would it really be that hard for them to consult Dore on what it would take for him to tell his listeners to vote for Biden? They're just not interested in differing opinions.
The Trump criticism was also dull - we didn't need to hear three different establishment retreads (Clinton, Schumer and Kerry) all repeat the same ORANGE MAN BAD! talking points. The older blue blood Dems who might actually care about what those guys have to say already vote with good turnout, the younger voters who are more fickle have no interest in hearing from Jeffrey Epstein's wingman or the only Dem nominee in the last 30 years who was so milquetoast he couldn't even win the popular vote. Schumer is the highest ranking Dem in the senate so he kinda needs to be a speaker, but neither Kerry nor Clinton should have had a role. The obvious takeaway from 2016 was that it's time for a changing of the guard, and the DNC is fighting that changing of the guard every step of the way.
The best feature from last night was the guy with ALS. If the DNC doesn't want the younger progressive to have a platform, they'd be better off doing more like the ALS thing vs. letting the same retreads give the same speech.

Her speech was a formality dude, not sure if you know this and you're purposefully being obtuse or if you actually think AOC went rogue and endorsed Bernie. Someone had to be the speaker endorsing Bernie as a candidate who received delegates, and they chose her.
It's not Biden fans who are pissed about her speech, it's AOC fans/progressives (like me) who are pissed that they gave John Kasich a 4 minute speech to ramble about "crossroads" (figuratively and literally) but all they gave AOC was a formality speech no one cares about. It would have been less offensive if they didn't give her a speaking role at all instead of making her the token Bernie supporter.
Trump's campaign should start a rumor that AOC refused to give a speech endorsing Biden so they made her a procedural speaker who had no relevance.

A McCain endorsement would actually help in a pivotal swing state (Arizona) so the DNC re s wouldn't be interested. They prefer GOP endorsements that are pointless and do nothing but piss off progressive voters.
The GOP endorsements they got on Monday were really important though - a silicon valley billionaire, the former governor of NJ, and an ex-GOP congresswoman from NY. Ensuring Biden wins California, New York and New Jersey by at least 25% instead of just 20% while only further painting the Dems as the party of coastal elitists will go a long way towards helping him win the electoral college

The 2020-2024 presidence is already ed regardless who wins. And most likely the losing party will take 2024 in a landslide because our economy will be completely ed.

I know it's your reflexive instinct to defend the establishment and blame progressives, but it doesn't make any sense to blame AOC for the role that she was given by the DNC/Biden Campaign. It's not her job to run a clean convention that unites the party, it's the DNC's job and the Biden Campaign's job. She didn't have the option of doing her own personal speech, it was the role they gave her and she did what she was told. It's not her responsibility to consider the political ramifications of the 90 second procedural speech she gave.
The damage has already been done, you have the same groupthink issue where you take for granted how hastily the average American draws conclusions with incomplete information. People from both sides are already pissed about this because of the confusion it created.
