probably true that the parties wouldnt be as openly hostile to him there, but realistically, its not like a majority of democrat voters nationwide supported him. the number of actual leftists in the US is a lot smaller than the internet noise would suggest (leftist being distinct from liberal)

The reporter asked her in a non-loaded, benign way “Now you’re trailing Mark Kelly in the polls, what are you doing to catch up?” and her reply was an immediate “WELL A LOT OF THE POLLS ARE FAKE!”
She was yelling during the whole interview and had a conspiracy theory about how Mark Kelly has business interests in a China and he’s going to sell us out to China if he gets elected.
These republicans keep pushing the China thing like it’s helpful to them It isn’t.

i dont know exactly what the DNC did wrong in 2019/2020... you could certainly argue that the media was being more critical of him, and less so with more establishment/liberal dems. i think you could look at the landscape of the democratic representatives nationwide and find that progressives aren't really the dominant force of the party

I’m not making excuses for the DNC, but it goes beyond just them. It’s a coordinated effort by the DNC, most of its establishment politicians, and most importantly the media. MSNBC is the worst offender. After Bernie won Nevada, Chris Matthews went on TV screaming about how it was like when France surrendered to Nazi Germany.
Its really the corporate interests that control the DNC and “left wing” media. The reason Nancy Pelosi fights tooth and nail to keep progressives out of Congress is because she’s worried about what her corporate sponsors might think if she doesn’t.
EDIT - Im probably naive for thinking this, but I think the establishment grip on the Democratic Party is getting increasingly weaker. They might be able to get enough progressive votes to beat Trump this time around (the only reason I’m voting for Biden is the RBG replacement + Trump trying to tamper with elections. If not for that I’d rather see Trump win another term because it gives progressives a better chance in 2022 and 2024), but I do honestly think you’re going to see revolt in the Democratic Party it they try to pedal another milquetoast establishment type in 2024.

I get the comparison but I don’t see it. It’s not outsiders they try to keep away, it’s left wing populist ideals no matter where they’re coming from, an outsider or an insider. Even when its an in bent who’s been in congress since 1976 (Ed Markey), the party elites turned against him once he started working with AOC on legislation. They dress it up as an effort to protect in bents, in reality it’s an effort to protect the establishment-friendly status quo.
