What they did right in 2016 is run this through 4chan and Wikileaks, which look like 3rd parties. Once it comes directly from a campaign, it's always much more scrutinized.
I wouldn't be surprised if they tapped him, but he clearly isn't involved in the day to day.

I didn't claim it was false, I said that is up to the FEC to decide whether or not they violated campaign finance laws. You posted nothing more than a complaint by a watchdog.
