Treading water is better than losing even more ground but losing the senate ensures Biden is a lame duck until at least 2022. Sorry if I'm not happy Biden grossly underperformed his polls and there is nothing we can do for two more years to make the Republicans eat for what they have done to this country.

Incorrect. McConnell wasn't a bottleneck for Obama until January 2015. I keep saying it... if say Scalia had died in 2014 or 2012 or 2010 instead of 2015/2016, there wasn't a damn thing the GOP could have done to block a progressive justice.

You're wrong. McConnell and other Republicans used the blue slip rule to keep judge vacancies open the minute Obama took office. It didn't always work but on the 5th Circuit for example Obama couldn't get any judges appointed. The judge appointments just stopped completely nationwide once McConnell won a majority.

SCOTUS appointments aren't subject to the blue slip rule which is why Obama was able to fill them.

Of course, once Trump won the white house, McConnell immediately ended the blue slip rule to ram judges through to fill all the openings.

Eh, not really. Philly alone probably has the votes to put Biden on top, and there are still other blue counties with a higher-than-average remaining vote. It's probably not going to be as close as we thought it might be.

The reaction was appropriate since it showed a five point swing in Florida and foreshadowed the rust belt, and especially Pennsylvania, being very compe ive. And we were all right to be concerned. None of us knows if Biden will hold on in NV and AZ given how the latino vote has broken a little for Trump and if Biden doesn't win those in PA he still has a lot of ground to make up. It's nice that Biden has more remaining paths to the presidency than Trump but ain't over. And it's not the kind of win most of us were hoping for where we could start undoing Trumps legacy even if Biden does squeak by. That FL result correctly foreshadowed a long night.

You shouldn't worry - most of the Cuban vote was by older people. Their children and grandchildren don't share the same experience or hatred of socialism - in fact, they are quite spoiled - full rides to state univ (National Hispanic is a lower bar than National Merit), get into elite universities/programs because the colleges and Google/FB/etc. need to shore up their diversity profiles.

You can always reach out to gots like Romney and good old Susan Collins to make up a majority. It's a lot easier to get to 50 now from before. I'm just saying.
