There's no socialist politicians in the US. The label "Democratic Socialist" is completely re ed. Socialism is centered around nationalizing all industry and running the economy from a centralized bureaucracy. Nobody is proposing that here.
Somehow Jared Golden comfortably won re-election in Maine's 2nd district by campaigning on the "radical" ideas of M4A and a Green New Deal while both Biden and Gideon got s acked in Maine's 2nd district by running on centrism.
But yeah, progressive ideas and SOCIALISM! were clearly the reason Democrats lost this election.

It doesn’t help when Pelosi and Schumer intentionally put bad labels on progressive ideas because they want to see them fail.
There were a lot of Florida Democrats who ran away from the state’s $15.00 minimum wage initiative because they thought it was too radical, only for Florida to vote overwhelmingly Republican while simultaneously voting for that initiative with 60% approval. If the Democrats in Florida ran as the candidates who were behind that initiative and supportive of it methinks they would have done a lot better.
Doesn't matter what it's about if the name is poison.
Rebrand it.
"The Squad", Defund the Police and the socialism label killed you guys in the house. When all the votes are counted Democrats may only have the house by 5 seats. Keep that up and you will probably lose the house in 2022.

Call that "No Police Officer Left Behind," get some token cops to support it on news networks and get it done.
I read that "the squad" grew by 4 more members in this election. That's four more loudmouths to your guys chances in 2022.
The squad added more members, all the progressives kept their seats, while centrist Dems got clobbered.

She might not be “squad” but Katie Porter is leftist who won in a district Trump won by 17% in 2016.
This election just showed that the country is years away from electing a true liberal politician for POTUS.
Most of the conservatives there moved to Texas since 2016.
Socialism isn’t necessarily top down state owned industry. Just means the workers or public own means of production. Worker cooperatives are effectively socialist enterprises
The re ed Defund the Police protests were, which is largely due to horrible Dem messaging. They Dems went with the Kellyanne defense of “Well they don’t literally mean defund the police” when they should have come out with a unified message of “we want police reform but defund the police is stupid and we don’t support defunding or abolishing police at all.” The Squad didn’t help in that respect but Pelosi and party leadership were just as bad at the messaging part.
Im also not convinced Democrats basically conceding Trump was the candidate who was better for the economy didn’t have a bigger impact than defund the police. It’s tough to win when the other side is delivering a better message on the issue that 40% of the country views as the most important issue.
Pretty sure Biden is going to win Orange County by double-digit percentages. I think the District is moving farther to the left.
Agreed. I look at my own state NC and we lost all the red counties by big margins with Biden despite Biden being republican lite. Biden over performed in the blue counties down here but under performed in the red counties. Also our centrist dem candidates got their ass whooped in red districts for congress down here. Cunningham a centrist could not defeat the in bent Tillis for the senate seat. I know some will say the adultery scandal cost him but I believe he probably would have still lost anyways.
They tried to pivot to "reform" but it was too late.
Best to frame it with "support the police" as in "we ask them to do too much, here's how we help them".
because they let defund to take hold certain people will say defund=reform. It was a stupid saying that the Dems let get out of hand so their cities would stop burning
