I don't think Gohmert is all that muzzled tbh.

Democrats aren't mobilized by anything Gohmert does or says. Republicans are definitely triggered by AOC. That's just how political celebrity works. She needs to realize she's not Gohmert. The only dream candidate has been Obama. All Democrats need to stop sucking.
Imo Yang is the closest thing we have to a dream candidate in 2024.

I agree that Democrats in general need to stop sucking, which is why I find the laser focus on AOC stupid. How about starting with the people who actually control the party? AOC isn’t in any leadership positions, the hacks like Pelosi/Schumer/Perez are. Schumer threw away a senate seat in NC by bankrolling Cunningham over Erica Smith. Biden actually got more votes than Tillis did - there was a 3rd party candidate who siphoned a lot of Trump votes off Tillis. All the Democrats needed was a candidate who could get down ballot votes from Biden, instead Schumer went with a candidate who cared more about getting his wet than winning.

There is no laser focus on AOC. Progressives just get defensive because she's the face of the franchise.

There were a ton of weak D candidates. AOC is actually one of them if she was in another district.

I make a post in this thread about Hakeem Jeffries being a corporate shill, and the immediate response is at least he’s not AOC

That sure as looks like a laser focus on AOC.

Is Katie Porter a bad candidate? She’s a progressive in an R+3 district.

I'm sure this lady wheoever she is was going to be the difference maker here. lol

Democrats lost accross the board with good to decent candidates. Independents just decided to say it I want some more republicans in the senate. Simple as that.

You cant tell me Gideon wasn't a good candidate. Or that Jaime wasn't.

    She doesn't have the votes.

Erica Smith would have energized the black vote so yes, in a state where Dems require significant black turnout to win, having a black candidate actually is a difference maker. I don’t even know what her political views are but she’s a state senator in a swing district so I doubt she’s very far left.

Gideon was a terrible candidate. She wasn’t a Maine native (which absolutely makes a difference in rural Maine) and she had no campaign message beyond “I’m not not Susan Collins.” She looks like she’d be a good so that makes her better than McGrath, but beyond that there was nothing that made her a good candidate. Jared Golden would have been better, a Democrat whos actuallt capable of winnining in ME-02.

I think Harrison would have been a lot better if he made more media appearances and didn’t fall for the Schumer campaign strategy of running TV ads and hiding in a basement (I’m not making that up, someone in North Carolina said that he was approached by Schumer about a senate run and said Schumer literally told him that they’d send a lot of money his way to run negative ads about Tillis while he would make as little appearances as possible).

The fact people lash out at AOC for the very non controversial view that the Dems need to do better at media advertising is what’s stupid. The GOP is lightyears ahead of Dems on digital advertising.

realistic about what? I said Hakeem Jeffries is a House n!gger and you went ballistic. There are options for speaker of the house beyond Pelosi, AOC and Hakeem Jeffries.

    About politics in this climate.

Not sure what you mean about going ballistic. My first post in this thread was anyone but Pelosi. That means, anyone that's not attached to her or in her mold.

I feel the same about Schumer and you damn well know how I feel about Perez. You're arguing for the sake of arguing with me.

I think Stacey Abrams more than earned the chairmanship of the DNC.

Who replied to who first ITT, you or me? I’m not the one who instigated this argument.

Im also not sure how I’m being unrealistic. What specifically am I being unrealistic about? That the speaker should be someone other than Pelosi or her Stephen Hakeem Jeffries?

The hard push to the left AOC is heading.

To be fair, she's the less offender of the group. Tlaib and Ilhan are far more agressive in pushing their agenda.

It feels like we always fight about something we fundamentally are in agreement on generally. Let's just leave that for another day. lol

dude all I was doing was ting on Hakeem Jeffries. I had no idea why you responded to me about progressives because I def. wasn't endorsing AOC as speaker or anyone close to her.

Ideal speaker would be someone like Lloyd Doggett imo. Not a far left progressive but somewhere in between centrists and AOC who can unite both wings of the party.

If you think Tlaib and Ilhan are extreme, Cori Bush is going to put all of them to shame

hopefully progressives start to take over the party in the next 10-20 years. There will never be any real meaningful change with the Centrist like Pelosi, Schumer, Biden, and Durban running the party

Yeah and ignore everything else. Right at this moment there's a total assault on the credibility of our election system by a vast majority of elected Republicans complicit and there's no rage from Sleepy Joe. He's just moping along.

    Grow a ing pair.
Joe has nothing to fear, or worry about. What can Joe do or say?

There's literally one congresswoman who's for defunding the police, and no I'm not saying Cori Bush should be speaker. All I was saying is that a complete establishment pros ute who actively works to defeat progressive policies shouldn't be speaker. I consider people like Sherrod Brown and Stacey Abrams "progressives" (Sherrod Brown calls himself a progressive for that matter), are you saying they'd be bad speakers?

Regarding "defund the police" - when did AOC ever say she wanted to defund the police? This is a narrative the establishment Dems are running with to try and discredit and hurt a progressive movement that's growing. Defund the police is a fringe idea that really doesn't have any support beyond BLM protesters. AOC is handling it horribly by running her mouth on twitter but the ultimate issue is messaging more than anything else, which the establishment Dems are just as bad at if not even worse at than progressives are. Dems have been awful on messaging as long as I've been old enough to follow politics, and that was long before the emergence of AOC + 3.
Austin City Council unanimously approves $150 million — one-third — cut to police budget
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...rd/5582312002/

That money will be redirected to a wide variety of community programs and city departments, including Austin-Travis County EMS for COVID-19 response, mental health response, violence prevention, a family violence shelter and victim services.

Funds have also been shifted to parks and trails, abortion access, food access, substance abuse care and others.

Aside from the $21.5 million in immediate funding shifts, the council also moved about $128.8 million into two transitional funds, one to remove primarily civilian functions from the police department and another to divert dollars from police to alternative forms of public safety over the next year.
We will get to see what happens. My guess is that now that we can try something a bit more evidence based, we will get better outcomes. We foisted too much on the police, including dealing with the forever mental health crisis caused by Reagan when he defunded mental health programs.
