You won't be able to do that with POTUS for this. Never being able to hold office again is probably worse for him anyways.
SURE CORNER THE WOUNDED ANIMAL WHO TOTALLY WON'T DO ANYTHING BUT YOU WILL ALL DIE
You won't be able to do that with POTUS for this. Never being able to hold office again is probably worse for him anyways.
Wouldn't say that, he still has enough Republican support to win a primary loaded with candidates like he did in 2016.
The point of impeachment, even if it comes late, is that Congress can vote to legally preclude him from ever holding office again.
If that happens, it doesn't matter whether he runs or not, he cannot be president again.
I'm willing to bet that enough republicans play the "we can't impeach a president out of office" card. That he's not getting impeached. There is precedent sure, but you do this and there will be bad faith impeachments by the republicans till the end of time. IE they would impeach Obama for no other reason than they would have wanted to show he's some kind of bad guy.
I don't think it matters as far as Obama is concerned, since he pretty much is out of the holding office game.
Politics aside, the gravity of what transpired last week can't just be swept under a rug. Not doing anything also sets a precedent that a polarizing populist demagogue can come in and destroy democracy as we know it.
There are a bunch of current politicos that would fit that mold, like Cruz or Hawley. There has to be an unmistakable message sent that there's a line that cannot be crossed.
I would prefer the 25th amendment, just because it prevents the Congressional exposure you mention, but I think Pence will just try to ride out the next 10 days.
Um, already had a bad faith impeachment with Clinton. If they can get a 2/3 majority in the senate to convict over little like lying about a blowjob the country is already over anyways.
25th wouldn't preclude him from holding office again. Even if the 25th gets successfully applied I want him impeached and convicted.
There's the 14th Amendment Section 3 in play also. I would suspect Congress or the Judiciary would need to validate the act as aiding insurrection, which makes it legally more murky, but there's that too.
I agree with you about impeachment also to define what the GOP is going to be. Impeachment is largely a moral/political scrutiny, more than a legal one.
If the GOP determines that Trumpism is their future, then they no longer can claim a moral high ground, or much of any talk about the Cons ution, democracy, etc.
At that point, bull impeachments would be a given anyways.
Pelosi is sounding like she won't give him 10 days.
The single Article of Impeachment is written and circulated, could be voted 11th or 12th.
The delay then would be Moscow Mitch not blowing it off like the first impeachment, but simply delaying, which he said he would.
Impetuous Trash may decide to resign to let President Pence pardon him.
Would be great if they made that deal, then Pence vengefully not pardoning him.
Pence is going to the inauguration
"the impeachment debate is still highly consequential.
The Senate has the power both to remove Trump from office and to prevent him from holding office in the future.
That second power will not expire when his term ends, many cons utional scholars say.
A Senate trial can happen after Jan. 20." -- NY Times email
Clyburn said the Senate trial should delay 100 days to let Biden get organized and start Presidenting as a Dem, which means Senate Repugs blocking Biden's appointees to the Executive branch. 2/3 required.
McConnell will still have the power to castrate the Dems, to continue screwing America, without penalty.
Gotcha motha ah!![]()
Maybe ask the guy they arrested, and not some RandomGuy on the internet?
No idea. Were I to guess generally when you want to execute people you have to secure them first.

They certainly didn't need zip ties to kill officer Sicknick.

funny thing:
If McConnel wants to slow walk the vote... he stops being Senate Majority Leader on Jan 20th. At the VERY least, there will actually be a Senate trial with witnesses this time.
Trump can still be impeached and convicted, which will prevent him from running for office again. Unlikely, but it will force the spectacle of having Senators on record.
This stain will not be coming off the Republican party for a LONG time.
The Senate Repugs will not provide 18 conviction votes to add to the Dems' 49, to get 67, the required 2/3.
Trash will not be convicted by the Senate.
'Trump passes the test' for being prosecuted for inciting the Capitol riot:
ex-Justice Department officials
Donald Trump likely would not be able to seek refuge by asserting his 1st Amendment right to free speech should he be indicted for inciting the mob to storm the U.S. Capitol last week that led to five deaths.
the Supreme Court has already set the legal threshold for prosecution when it comes to inciting a riot -- and that the president went well beyond it.
"The federal criminal code (18 USC 373) makes it
a crime to solicit, command, induce or 'endeavor to persuade' another person to commit a felony that
includes the threat or use of physical force.
Simply put, it is a crime to persuade another person, or a mob of several thousand, to commit a violent felony,"
"In mid-December, Trump tweeted,
'Statistically impossible to have lost the 2020 Election. Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!'
At the Save America rally, Trump exhorted his supporters to 'stop the steal,' shortly before they launched their attack.
He commanded the crowd,
'Because you'll never take back our country with weakness.
You have to show strength and you have to be strong.'
He made it clear:
'If they do the wrong thing, we should never, ever forget that they did. Never forget.'
'The radical left knows exactly what they were doing. They are ruthless and
it's time that somebody did something about it,'"

Nope. He is almost certainly not going to be convicted.
There will be a trial though.
Hence the reason for a quick trial. Just get those traitorous senators on record supporting the coup.
I get that you probably don’t remember what you post when you wake up from passing out in a drunken stupor, but you’re as much of a centrist as ducks and derp.
here’s to your daughters impending pregnancy with Tyrone.
LMAO at that Trump calling himself a centrist.![]()
If the House and Senate expel Trumpist rebels, it starts to resemble the 1861 Congress. I'd be shocked see it happen, but Pelosi did bring it up.
Expelling a senator requires 2/3 so that ain't going to happen
Instigators to incite insurrection like Cruz, Hawley, Trump, etc. need to pay. The Cons ution is pretty clear on this. You brush this aside then we're no longer a country of laws.
