Wouldn't say that, he still has enough Republican support to win a primary loaded with candidates like he did in 2016.
The point of impeachment, even if it comes late, is that Congress can vote to legally preclude him from ever holding office again.
If that happens, it doesn't matter whether he runs or not, he cannot be president again.
I'm willing to bet that enough republicans play the "we can't impeach a president out of office" card. That he's not getting impeached. There is precedent sure, but you do this and there will be bad faith impeachments by the republicans till the end of time. IE they would impeach Obama for no other reason than they would have wanted to show he's some kind of bad guy.
I don't think it matters as far as Obama is concerned, since he pretty much is out of the holding office game.
Politics aside, the gravity of what transpired last week can't just be swept under a rug. Not doing anything also sets a precedent that a polarizing populist demagogue can come in and destroy democracy as we know it.
There are a bunch of current politicos that would fit that mold, like Cruz or Hawley. There has to be an unmistakable message sent that there's a line that cannot be crossed.
I would prefer the 25th amendment, just because it prevents the Congressional exposure you mention, but I think Pence will just try to ride out the next 10 days.

25th wouldn't preclude him from holding office again. Even if the 25th gets successfully applied I want him impeached and convicted.
There's the 14th Amendment Section 3 in play also. I would suspect Congress or the Judiciary would need to validate the act as aiding insurrection, which makes it legally more murky, but there's that too.
I agree with you about impeachment also to define what the GOP is going to be. Impeachment is largely a moral/political scrutiny, more than a legal one.
If the GOP determines that Trumpism is their future, then they no longer can claim a moral high ground, or much of any talk about the Cons ution, democracy, etc.
At that point, bull impeachments would be a given anyways.
