Skull in the groin area.
That fits.
Cry me a river
They need guns to protect themselves more then voted in congress
So they can all shoot each other?
correct?
Blacks love to shoot blacks
So in a way you could get rid of all the residents of DC?
Is this a plan?
Right, thread le clearly says DC Statehood, in other words, if they become a State they're en led to at some of those votes.
Sure. It likely benefits one party because the population is made up of people that the other party makes no effort whatsoever to attract. But political strategy shouldn't stand in the way of fair representation.
I would argue it's more than that. There's one party whose active strategy is suppressing the vote they suspect might not favor them.
Why is DC en led to Virginia and Maryland's lands?
It's called a district for a reason, not a state.
Why is West Virginia en led to Virginia's land?
I never claimed they were.
Yet they got it.
Despite your whining.
Is that a feather in your cap, Derp?
or vermont
It would be a small state, especially considering the chunk the feds would take. I'd think they'd get annexed before becoming an individual state.
Reading about it, there are certainly some cons utional issues. I know you guys are lusting after those two additional senate votes, but the general legal consensus seems to be that it would take a cons utional amendment. If they try to do it without one it's bound to end up in the Supreme court. IMHO Puerto Rico has a better chance of getting statehood than DC.
Why it would probably need a cons utional amendment:
James Madison explained the need for a federal district on January 23, 1788, in the Federalist No. 43, arguing that the national capital needed to be distinct from the states, in order to provide for its own maintenance and safety.[2] An attack on the Congress at Philadelphia by a mob of angry soldiers, known as the Pennsylvania Mutiny of 1783, had emphasized the need for the government to see to its own security.[3] Therefore, the authority to establish a federal capital was provided in Article I, Section 8 of the United States Cons ution, which states that Congress shall have the power:
To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States
1/6 proved that DC is NOT set up to provide its own security.
They certainly have the capability, they just didn't use it on 1/6.
