The Taliban gave us 48hrs to get out

They got upset that president Ghani fled before handing over power. Thats why they now entered Kabul and Presidential Palace

And now looks like they might be upset US moved their embassy operations to Airport. If they decide to take Kabul Airport everyone in it including US ambassador are hostages
    Hostages for what purpose?

Think US embassy hostages in Iran

USA will be forced to negotiate if embassy ambassador and/or staff are held hostage in Kabul Airport

If US attempts to attack Taliban anywhere the airport will.be a bloodbath with rivers of american blood

Checkmate. All we can do is negotiate our evacuation.
The Taliban has absolutely no reason to take Americans who already have 1 foot out the door hostage. They want the US out of the country and that won’t happen if there’s a hostage crisis.

There should be commissions, hearings, etc. on how our intelligence was so far off in believing the Afghan army could stave off the Taliban for 90 days or more. Generals should also get fired over this. We spent 20 years and trillions of dollars to train an army that folded against the Taliban faster than Poland did against Nazi Germany.

We should have evacuated the embassy and gotten US assets/translators/etc visas months ago imo. It seems like the generals were totally oblivious to how inept the Afghan army was or how quickly it’d fold. If you’re going to evacuate then you should EVACUATE ie get the out of the country.

Granted even if Biden did all of that, hater would still be claiming Biden ed up by withdrawing.
Didn’t Generals not want to withdraw at all? I mean, those are exactly the guys that need fingers pointed at for being caught with their pants down when they knew for a long time we were pulling off.

You keep thinking the US has some leverage. We have ZERO leverage.

Taliban can easily do whatever they want for many reasons. Payback, propaganda, reparations they can ask for whatever they want and we have to give it to them.

That one General, the big cheese, Milley was busy trying to gun down President Trump because he surmised the old man was going to coup de dat at the 11th hour. "We have the guns, not him!"

This. But the problem I see with this is that Generals didn’t want to leave so their story is going to be colored by that.
It’s unfortunate that a Democrat president has to sweep in again and fix another Republican up (tho plenty of Dems voted for the invasion), but it had to be done.

100%. Generals should be fired over this disaster. It’s clear that generals have never given the full story on how pointless the 20 year occupation was, and it’s clear that whatever we were doing to “train” the Afghani army was nothing more than a money pit and circle jerk to give the generals job security.

One side was fighting for the "one true religion" and the other side was just cashing an American paycheck. Its no surprised who prevailed. As soon as the hit the fan the afghan "army" gave up and switched sides.

General Miller is a patriot who understood what was at stake at that time. Forever grateful there’s people like him watching over American democracy.

Nope, this will all be swept under the rug.

General Milley was too busy collaborating on that book where he was going to thwart President Trump's coup by shooting him to death..."We have the guns. Not him!"

the point is the "army" they trained for 20 years flipped sides when hit the fan, the Afgan SF and translators are ed though. And honestly the guys that flipped are probably not long for this world either if the taliban are smart

Oh agreed it’s no surprise that things unfolded this way, I’m saying there should be hearings over why the generals/intelligence agencies/etc. ed this up so badly and actually thought the Afghani army was going to put up a real fight.

The inexcusable part to me is leaving US troops, personnel, translators, assets, etc in harm’s way. Everything else about the withdrawal I’m fine with and agree with, but you need to make sure both Americans and the Afghanis who helped us while we were there are safe. When you leave foreign assets hung out to dry in such a spectacular fashion for the world to see, you’re never going to find any who are willing to help you again.
