The US government also made no effort to ensure the money we were dumping into Afghanistan was being used correctly. Ultimately what happened here is the Afghani security forces laid down their guns and gave up because the systemically corrupt Afghani politicians who we’ve been propping up for years and who never had the support of the people were focused on enriching themselves while leaving the Afghani soldiers with no food or supplies.
