Well before her 6 years are up,

Cinema will switch parties to give the McConnell control.

She will be rewarded with $Ms.

    She's finished as a Dem.

Oh, would that be a boon. CNN would their pants.

I'd even give my right nut for that prediction to come to fruition.

The fascist Repugs are gonna on America.

the Cons ution. 30% of the population elects 70 Senators.

    America is ed and

democracy will be totally dead from 2025 when Repugs/oligarchy control all three branches.

To be fair both McCain and Manchin were/are at end of political careers so they have more room to blow up. This is in look for #1 mode right now.

More voluminous, unending evidence that pols don't GAS about their voters.

Oligarchy's bribes ERASE preferences of voters

Manchin Targeted for Trying to Sink Democratic Agenda

West Virginians gathered at the senator’s yacht to

demand that he stop blocking the “popular and needed” Build Back Better package.

Manchin on Thursday faced fresh pressure from his cons uents, who traveled from West Virginia to rally at his Washington, D.C. residencea houseboat named “Almost Heaven.”

“West Virginians like me should not have to come all the way to our senator’s yacht in D.C. to be heard,”

“This bill is popular and needed across our state and across political parties, but Sen. Manchin is still blocking it.

We’re tired of feeling like we’re on a battlefield against our own representative.”

We need healthcare, child care, affordable prescriptions, environmental justice—

everything in the Build Back Better Act,”

“He needs to get out of the way and do what we, his cons uents, have long been demanding.

Pass the full bill, Joe Manchin.”

'We're not a bunch of deadbeats': West Virginians turn on Manchin for blocking much-needed help

voters back in West Virginia are furious with Sen. Joe Manchin (D) for bullying his fellow Democrats to take out much-needed aid for poorer families,

Of particular concern is Manchin wanting to limit an expanded child tax credit that cou

ld have a positive impact on thousands of West Virginia families.

"We want Manchin to take a little bit more active role in protecting us as far as West Virginians. We're not a bunch of deadbeats. We work for a living and we're due."

federal aid is helping many West Virginia families stay together.

president and chief executive of Catholic Charities West Virginia,

"For some of our clients, this is keeping them above water right now.

West Virginia just has so many challenges.

We struggle with jobs, we struggle with our people leaving our
    state for other jobs.

So the Child Tax Credit has been huge."

It's really problematic for this administration. They've been politically inept. They had a choice to make a few months ago:

    1) Try to rein in Manchin and Sinema or expose them for what they are and campaign on obstructionist republicans.

Result: nothing gets done, but you have scapegoats and a solid excuse to fire up some of your base in the midterms to actually show up and vote, with hopes you can get something done in the last two years.

    2) Try to 'negotiate' with what can only be summed up as the opposing party, without any leverage.

Result: nothing gets done, you look inept, spent your political capital promising results and showing none, your base thinks you're stupid, you become a lame duck for the last two years.

The additional problem with 2), is now they're going to look desperate to cut any deal which means bending over backwards, getting in return and probably pissing off half your base.

But they knew they had no leverage from the get go. They completely misread the situation or who they were planning to negotiate with.

Biden's always just been a negotiator and he needed a VP who could get her hands dirty for him, unfortunately that's definitely not Kamala.

I think you win the small wars and expand them in the future when you have more votes.
Agreed, the focus for this bill needs to be on what has the most immediate impact which is child tax credit / universal pre-K / family leave / ACA subsidies. Universal pre-K is esp. important since it'll be the most helpful in terms of giving women the ability to get back to work and ensure the unemployment rate is lower headed into midterm season.

The Dems are the Washington Generals of politics, but they kind of have to be. Their whole schtick is selling solutions to the problems their corporate donors cause.

Another tack would be building broad-based public support by passing policies that concretely benefit large numbers of people. Once upon a time, the Democratic Party did this and controlled Congress for 52 years.

they're not moderates, they're reactionary centrists who are functionally radical right wingers.
