We don't even have one season with that backcourt.
The backcourt started in the bubble. And it was pretty obvious to pop why, until white became a semi reliable shooter. And White plays vastly different and inferior when sharing the court with Murray.

Then the following season it still didnt work, so we blamed DDR and White's injury year. And it's been a pre season and three games, and the backcourt offensively is still questionable, despite playing alongside McDermott instead of DDR. They currently shooting 26% from three.

Defense will keep us from getting blown out but if our offense is stinking we just can't maintain that defense for four quarters - It's like a football team with a great defense and a terrible offense they can keep it close but still need to put up points to win

They aren't relentless in attacking. They think getting blocked once means never being aggressive ever again. We gotta fix that mentality.

I want the ball jammed down the opponents throat every time, regardless of the last possession and the guys mentally are not to that point yet, may never be due to their personalities.

Keldon attacked OK but his euro-step is god-tier so he didn't get hit often.

This is exactly what we should all want. A compe ive/fun team that ends up losing enough games down stretch because it doesn’t have the offensive horses. Figure out who the keepers are, get value for the other guys, and get a key piece in the draft.

It’s one thing to lose 50ish games and be going through the motions. This team is not doing that.
    Yup

    pop's rotations are pure .

it's malpractice not to be playing primo vassell and jones more minutes.

pop has completely lost me as a fan.

This is just dumb. This is the first time we've seen the backcourt get a legit shot together and we can make a decision after this season. Last season with DDR is pretty obviously not the same. The bubble is not a season. Imagine trying to construe the an isolated group of games against the better teams in the NBA as an entire NBA season.

Now, after bringing up the shooting percentage, after 3 games, why don't you bring up all the defensive stats?

If this backcourt goes the full season shooting 26% or lower from 3 I'll never post on ST again. Will you do the same if they don't?

You don't have to think that they're amazing, but the least you can do is not fill your argument with bad faith bull as if people here don't watch the Spurs and understand that we certainly don't have what anyone should characterize as two seasons with this backcourt.

The Spurs actually played well, they just couldn’t hit a shot and Milwaukee was knocking down 3’s. Lots of heart from this group. Pop needs to give Bryn’s minutes to Primo, but other than that I like what I see so far.

Pretty impressive showing overall. Thrilled the team has played as well as it has so far.
Shooting is bound to come around and our D is allowing us to stay compe ive in the mean time.

Mate, they actually train together, you know, in which we don't see. And Pop just didn't play them together for reasons. The fans here were begging for the pairing. The pairing hasn't been pleasant.

Put it this way, this has to be the final season for this backcourt. If it doesn't work out this season, are you ready to pull the plug? I'm just calling it now.

The Spurs are fun as to watch right now, couldn't really say that the last 2 years.

They are playing team ball. They are rooting for another and seem to be ego free. There seems to be no coddling aside from Forbes, who is an end of bench guy anyway. I like the hustle, the determination, the fight, the desire. Yes, we are 1-2, but we are making our opponents work hard. BTW, the 2 losses, one in Denver (historically tough for us since the beginning) vs the reigning MVP and one vs the NBA Champion Bucks. The Bucks were insane from 3 in the 4th Q. I was listening to it on the radio as I was driving home. I swear they were draining 3 and 3 after 3. It was frustrating to listen to, but the Spurs kept fighting back and got within 4, before the Bucks seized full control with a few minutes left.

These early losses do suck, but because of the way we are playing, I believe they will be helpful down the road as learning tools on how to win vs really good teams. Just continue to bring it every night and our fortunes will definitely turn around, I believe.

The team is undersized compared to the Bucks.

What's is surprising was that Poetl is one of the few players that can mount a half decent defense agains Gianis.

Spurs don't have a decent size PF player.

It's extremely encouraging playing back to back games against two of the top 5 teams in the NBA and this team has yet to pack it in. Also DJ is exerting so much energy on the defensive end its hurting his offense but I fully expect him to break out in a couple of weeks once he gets his conditioning down.

There's a reason you want to talk about anything but the defense.

Not sure why everyone seems so down on the new guy Forbes. His shot mechanics are smooth and his shot will be a feature of this offense. Doesn't have much defense... Yet. I suggest the FO sign this guy to a 3 yr deal at $8M per, that'll give him time to add a lock-down defense tool to his repertoire. He'll be another steal for this legendary FO and scouting staff.

Their defense is what’s keeping them in the ballgame. There’s still a lot of holes in it, likewise their offense. But I expect them to just get better. I like Poeltl playing aggressively on offense, but he needs to get stronger in the post. I think this team could be the dark horse. It’s early but I like their tenacity. The shots are just not falling, and should get better as they make better crisp passes, hard cuts. I’m intrigued…

I’m not hating on Forbes but we already know what we can expect from Forbes. He’s not getting taller or faster. I’d expect more from Joe to fill his spot as knockdown shooter next year. He’s athletic, with 42” vertical, long and who can rebound and play defense.

Not sure why Pop is gives Jones 1min and 3mins (be garbage time)in the pass 2 games. Would love to see a bit more on whether he can play make a little. If he can knock down a couple of 3s it would be even better.

I wish we'd've had the chance to see a White/Vassell/DeRozan starting perimeter. I always thought Derrick and DeMar shared play-making better than they did with DeJounte, and Vassell coming into his own a bit defensively couldn't make that a strong unit on that end. I still worry a lot of about Johnson defensively. I think he's clearly a PF, but he'll always struggle there. I wish one of the young players would've locked themselves in the gym and made the commitment to become a knock-down three-point shooter. They all seem to have new midrange moves, but shooting has basically been outsourced to McDermott. It makes me question pretty strongly what Pop and the staff are telling the young players to do. Not everyone needs to develop a three-level one-on-one game that stars need. It's okay to have some Danny Greens and then get them to do more once they've already gotten an elite skill.

That’s my reservation on KJ. He’s not fast enough at SF and not really a knockdown 3pt shooter, and he’s too short at PF where Poeltl is always expected to scramble to help. Vassell is actually ideal at SF lockdown defender with his better all-around game and 3pt shooting. But I like him and Lonnie at go-to scorers from the bench. Maybe close with Vassell instead of McD.
