Ketanji Brown-Jackson was the planned Breyer replacement dating back to a year ago when she was nominated as Garland's replacement.
Chances are Breyer only retired as part of an agreement where he was assured his former clerk (KBJ) would take his spot. Same arrangement McConnell made with Anthony Kennedy re: Brett Kavanaugh.

They're marginally more effective against the squad than they are against other Dems because the squad consists of minority women which the GOP base will automatically assume is socialist, but that's the only real difference.
If AOC and "The Squad" weren't around, you'd have a different boogieman in congress to brand the Face of the Radical Left.
If Democrats listened to Republicans on what would be best for the party Mark Warner would be furthest left senator we have, and the GOP would still be calling him a radical leftist.
