The Spurs lost because they couldn’t generate points outside of perimeter shooting. We have a lot of guys who fall in love too much with their jumpshot that when they miss, it’s an easy layup on the other end. Vassell and White are the most guilty ones of these, with the former likely lacking in strength and skill to score inside. Kuminga was playing bully ball inside and the Spurs had no answer for it. That player can be anywhere from five feet tall to seven feet tall. Someone has to be more physical and take it inside. They rely way too much on jump shooting, and out of all them, Murray is the only one with a go-to move. The others have a predictable crossover that typically ends in a clank.

Actually, this would have been the perfect game for Collins to make his debut. He’s the only one on the team with a semblance of a post game.

They were ready to play...for three quarters.

I've never seen a team fold like a house of cards in the 4th as much as this group does.

agreed. DJ and jacob are the only players on the current roster that are built for the 4th quarter. Primo is well on his way to become the other player who'd be able to do the same. and mcdermott has no business being out there in critical moments unless we have to space the floor on a specific possession. he had a stretch in the 4th last night that helped to launch the warriors comeback.

119-118 2 ft basket by Poole comes after an obvious travel. Refs missed it, not pathetic D by Spurs nor good play by Poole.

DJ with two clutch baskets in a row. Erased.

I need to see what led to this epic collapse but one of the reasons we have lost more close games than most teams is that we don't have a true go-to guy/closer on this team.
We get our points through great team basketball, but that requires that everyone keep their composure in key moments instead of other teams being able to rely on their star to create a good shot.
We really need a true #1 scorer who can create their own shot and/or break down a defense.

^ DJ did a great job scoring by himself two consecutive trips up the floor to give the Spurs the lead TWICE.
Ahead 120-119, watch the pathetic D by KJ after the missed three pointer bythe Dubs.

Floats around in no mans land with his head up his ass, then goes over and takes a knee near the loose ball scuffle.
I mean wtf is he injured or wtf was that?

i think pop has done a great coaching job this year. the players just ... aren't that good

    sorry fellas

but pop is addressing the talent issue by making sure the spurs get the best chance at the highest lotto pick

Spurs simply choke in the 4th quarter. Team was lousy in shooting in the 4th and that is the story of the game. DeJounte tries to put the team on his shoulder by going one on one, but the other teams are ready for that. I wouldn't play Johnson in the 4th because he is a lousy defensive player and on offense makes too many mistakes--bad passes, trying to go one on one. I guess Pop feels he has to play him because of the shooting streak.
KJ not only played, but was promoted from small ball power forward to small ball center.

Pretty funny that this team flatlines whenever another coach throws out the zone defense.

Pop solidifying a higher draft pick because this loss should demoralize the troops.

    Nice!!

So much of this loss (and the overall team record) has to be attributed-- along with the obvious inexperience-- to the composition of the team. The Spurs shoot fewer threes than the vast majority of teams, and have terrible rebounding from their forward positions. Other teams are shooting and hitting more threes, and rebounding more three point attempt misses for second and third chance opportunities. The Spurs are young and in rebuild mode, so it's somewhat forgivable as I'm sure no one in the front office anticipates McDermott being a starter very far into the future. But the question of KJ as a power forward is the interesting dilemma. At this point, I'd honestly feel more comfortable with Murray as a small forward than with Keldon as a power forward, mostly due to his natural instincts & abilities as a rebounder.

As a percentage of the shots they take, the Spurs shoot the fewest 3s in the league. As usual.

They hit 3pt shots at a respectable rate, tho. They’re in the top half of the league, currently 12th, in 3pt shooting %.

Same old story. Better than average 3pt shooting ability, that they don’t use.

who fking cares. Their up and coming talent is far better than nearly our entire team. One call makes no dofference in the bigger scheme.

Better than average shooting because they don’t force 3pt shots. Most ofniur team would shoot considerably worse on volume.

Could, perhaps was difference in game.
Ya the Poppys had 2000 other chances to close this but still, it's a burn call on what was good D in the clutch.

Spurs kept getting out rebounded over and over and Pop did not adjust. Heck Juancho probably had gotten better rebounds than Keldon or McDermont and probably protected the rim better, anything, and that’s down 17 pts!! As if Pop already marked this as a loss. I guess that’s what it was. It was just last minute call by Kerr to pull his starters, but already Pop marked this as a loss. He already penciled in the one’s he would win just enough for his winningest coach, and lose the rest to get a higher pick in the draft.

the shocking thing is the Spurs are actually a middle of the pack 4th quarter team in the NBA. They are a NBA worst -11.3 points in the last 3 games though

this has been the case for 2 years now. That's just how you defend a team that loves to score in the paint, but can't shoot well enough from outside. Simple

first time all year i felt frustrated about a loss. i guess i still want this team to win!

its funny seeing others frustrated as well though...since it SEEMS like that majority are on team tank.

    oh well

i love watching DJ though. Man i'm truly excited about his future. i truly hope he can play with a legit star, could be something special.
