The crime rate was astronomical in the early nineties and that crime bill was supported by like 99.9% of the population. this is revisionist history to pretend like it was some racist bill that only racists supported at the time. Black politicians say that if they would speak out against the bill at community meetings saying it goes too far all the black people would yell at them and say we need to do something cuz the streets are unsafe and crime is through the roof.

The defund the police stuff is really what turn people off and that came from black activists but that also really came from progressives and leftists. NYT had a study about how leftists and progressives are far to the left on racial matters of black people themselves so not really sure was ting on black people all the time accomplishes. I mean one of the reason Bernie lost is because black people are more moderate and more toward the median voter. I didn't say the crime bill was racist; I said that Bill Clinton won the black vote by North Korea-sized margins without one iota of the pandering Democrats do for black people today (i.e., Bill Clinton didn't pick an affirmative action VP or promise to put a black woman on the supreme court).

Back to Russia, I was at a fundraiser for a certain congressman yesterday and after talking to him, it's crazy how close we came to Ukraine being embarrassed. 3 weeks ago Ukraine didn't even have enough ammunition for its AK-47s, and it's still arming up more every day.

Putin is an idiot for slow walking this invasion and wasting a week using conscript soldiers; if he invaded a few weeks ago and used his A-team soldiers, there's a good chance Ukraine would have folded quickly.

I don't think they are slow-walking this. They have exercised a bit of restraint, but I think they are moving as fast as their logistics and training allow. The shortfalls of Russian military capabilities have been inherited from the old Soviet army: get orders, stick to plan, and if something goes wrong, stick to plan no matter how obviously stupid the plan was.

Now every day that goes by without Russian progress is another day where Ukraine gets more guns, ammo, stinger missiles, javelins, etc...Russia is kinda in a race against time and doesn't realize it.

They could have caught Zelenskyy napping. Up until the very last minute he didn't think Russia would invade and didn't view it as a serious threat. Since then he's gotten tons of help from the world and became a larger than life figure that no amount of Russian propaganda can villainize - if Russia invades two weeks earlier they probably topple him quickly such that he has the legacy of a failed leader.

The other indication that they are not slow-walking, but moving as fast as they can: Fuel.




30 gallons per hour moving, 24 hours fuel at combat idle when not.

Plenty of accounts of Russian units asking around for fuel. One unit apparently went to a local police station to ask for some. Telling that they thought they would be welcomed. I think the reality of what they are doing has sunk in to even the greenest recruit and that will be an acid eating away at combat willingness.

Having a lot of tanks, but not enough fuel, means you have a lot of easy targets for hand-held weapons.

(nods) Gotcha. Even so, still not sure they slow-walked it. Movement of troops and supplies takes time, and neither the high command, nor the troops themselves have much experience in it.

Totally agree that they are in a race against time. Not only are the Ukrainians getting more weapons (including JETS), you see a lot of military vets and total rank amateurs from all over volunteering.
