Looks like Shoigu expects this war to go for 2 or 3 months.

He needs to call Pop and get some advice on adjustments as Russians are getting hammered in a couple of cities. Might have to bring Ginobili off the bench and start TOSB Finley.

& if I were the Poot I'd give that mother er Biden something special a half-hour before that Sgt-of-Arms announces his fake ass tonight.

it may be that Russian troops can't do without the cellphones because they were too rushed to establish supply lines and direct communication with central command before invading.

That is what I remember about using encryped comms. They can be a total pain in the ass, and if that is one of the holes in their training, that means their comms are vulnerable to things like infiltration. Get on a frequency and pretend to be someone else. Given the number of Ukrainians that are fluent in Russian, this would be especially effective.

Some light reading from my lunch break:
    https://thesovietarmourblog.blogspot...t-progeny.html
    https://thesovietarmourblog.blogspot...72-part-2.html

T-72s get 1mpg on the highway, with about .6 mpg offroad. Less if they are running the heater.

Some indication that they are changing their operations model from "just send some to the city center and you will be greeted as liberators", to "don't go nowhere without combined arms and moving in formation"

Give it a day for refuel, resupply and a day for reorg, while spending time tactical planning. Given what is known about Putin being pissed... one or two more days before we see the most massive urban brawl since Stalingrad or Grozny.

Ukrainians will quite possibly run out of bullets before the russians run out of ill-motivated conscripts.

this is the head of the Wagner Group, the paramilitary group Putin hired to assassinate Zelenskyy

Putin literally hired neo-Nazi mercenaries to assassinate a Jew who won his election with over 70% of the vote, and you're claiming that the Jew is the Nazi here

" ting on black people" (even though I'm not saying on them, I'm just saying stop pandering to them left and right with affirmative action leadership picks) wins you working class Hispanics. Every Hispanic family has sweet little abuela who'd secretly rather get sodomized by a machete than see her granddaughter marry a black man.

Take SCOTUS for example - Biden could have still picked Brown Jackson, but he could have thrown a few hispanic judges on his short list so they don't feel shafted. Instead he made a black woman pledge and we now have club for growth running targeted ads about all the Hispanic judges Biden refused to consider because of his commitment to pick a black woman.
    Mhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Makes me think TX-28, TX-15 (easily) and maybe even TX-34 are flipping red... Liberal dreams of "Blexas" are dying, dying, dead. State is flipping back to safe red territory. The Dems peaked in TX in 2018. But that's only the start of it

New Mexico. Could very easily turn out to be a dummymander. Melanie will survive her Albuquerque based district, but they very well might lose the other two seats there. Governor's race will be tight as balls despite polling opening up lean-(D). State could flip at POTUS level in 2024.

(Colorado WILL NOT flip back red or be super close, because the difference there is the key Democratic voting bloc there is white not Hispanic -- demographics in CO more resemble Oregon than New Mexico)

Arizona flipping blue in 2020 is going to prove to be an aberration like 1996 and not a trend.

Nevada has been blue for like 16 years, but it's flipping back (pink). Clark County will be razor thin which will be the death knell for NV Dems..

Dems are lucky that places like Georgia, Virginia and even NC have a large black presence and don't have much of a Latino presence.

    Mariupol will fall pretty soon.

Kharkov is bad news for Russia. They getting spanked there. Will take many days of tough battle IF they ever take it.

Roughly where it is as at as of 3-1-22 now is about the time they run out of food as well, without resupply.

My guess is this will go slowly and methodically. Like a Boa constrictor.

Russian military warns of strikes against facilities in Kyiv, according to statement via state media
The Russian military said Tuesday it will carry out strikes against the facilities in Kyiv, warning civilians living near the areas to leave.

The Russians will target the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the 72nd Main Center for Information and Psychological Operations (PSO) in Kyiv, the Russian defense ministry said in a statement Tuesday via Russian state news agency TASS.

"In order to suppress information attacks against Russia, the technological facilities of the SBU and the 72nd main PSO center in Kyiv will be hit with high-precision weapons," the statement said, according to TASS. "We call on Ukrainian citizens attracted by Ukrainian nationalists to carry out provocations against Russia, as well as residents of Kyiv living near relay nodes leave their homes."

Speaking about the "relay nodes," CNN's Clarissa Ward said, "we understand that to mean communications towers. So large antennas, things of that nature."

As the Tanks Rolled into Ukraine, So Did Malware. Then Microsoft Entered the War.

WASHINGTON — Last Wednesday, a few hours before Russian tanks began rolling into Ukraine, alarms went off inside Microsoft’s Threat Intelligence Center, warning of a never-before-seen piece of “wiper” malware that appeared aimed at the country’s government ministries and financial ins utions.

Within three hours, Microsoft threw itself into the middle of a ground war in Europe — from 5,500 miles away. The threat center, north of Seattle, had been on high alert, and it quickly picked apart the malware, named it “FoxBlade” and notified Ukraine’s top cyberdefense authority. Within three hours, Microsoft’s virus detection systems had been updated to block the code, which erases — “wipes” — data on computers in a network.

Then Tom Burt, the senior Microsoft executive who oversees the company’s effort to counter major cyberattacks, contacted Anne Neuberger, the White House’s deputy national security adviser for cyber- and emerging technologies. Neuberger asked if Microsoft would consider sharing details of the code with the Baltics, Poland and other European nations, out of fear that the malware would spread beyond Ukraine’s borders, crippling the military alliance or hitting West European banks.

    " We don't care about sanctions "
De-platforming them at a time where they really want to push out their disinfo campaign is just another way that their effort is being hobbled more and more day by day.

    Speaking of the disinfo campaign:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------
What a Russian soldier’s panicked text home reveals about Ukraine’s information war
"The Russians just do not understand how to respond to this.”

According to the translation at the UN, the soldier’s mother asked if he was in training exercises and why it had been so long since he’d responded. When the soldier said he wasn’t in Crimea, his mother asked where he was. “Mom,” the soldier allegedly texted back. “I’m in Ukraine.”

“There is a real war raging here. I am afraid,” the soldier’s text said, according to the UN translation. “We are bombing all of the cities, together. Even targeting civilians. We were told that they would welcome us and they are falling under our armored vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels and not allowing us to pass. They call us fascists, Mama, this is so hard.”

While it’s difficult to verify the authenticity of the texts, it almost doesn’t matter in terms of what Ukraine stands to gain from sharing them in such a public way on the international stage.

“It’s a personal message,” Singer continued, “in that it makes real in an intimate manner both the cost of Russia’s invasion, the narrative that Ukraine is pushing on an unjust invasion, the narrative that they’re trying to push within Russia of the illegitimacy of what Putin is doing, the narrative they’re trying to push within Russia of trying to create public pressure in particular among parents of soldiers to end the war.”

The key to Russia’s operation, Singer said, was “this sense of inevitable victory,” that Ukraine and its allies shouldn’t even put up a fight because there’s “no way you can win.” But that idea of an inevitable victory has been stymied again and again.

Instead, “you’ve got counter messaging of not only are we capturing POWs but we’re letting your poor, scared POWs call their parents.”

Ukraine’s messaging “has been masterful,” said the Army officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak with the media. Whereas the Ukrainian people are sharing photos, videos, and stories on social media that work to rally international support, the response from Russian President Vladimir Putin seems to be to “make scarier and scarier speeches” which in turn could push more countries into the arms of NATO.

And while the Ghost of Kyiv is in all likelihood a military urban legend, the veracity of that, and other similar viral stories, may not matter in the long, or short run — at least not to those fighting the conflict on the ground. At the end of the day it’s “a powerful symbol,” the officer said, which is reinforcing the message Ukraine wants people to hear: that Russian troops are demoralized, in some instances scared; that they didn’t really know what they were supposed to be doing in the first place; and that they don’t stand a chance.

It’s something Russia has to contend with, and Russian commanders, in particular, may have to address with their own troops.

“Is there any more cynical group of people on the planet than soldiers?” the officer quipped. “So when now they’re coming to you and saying, ‘Your morale’s great right?’ to the guy sitting in a hole in the ground, eating whatever the Russian equivalent of an MRE is, being shot at by little old ladies — talk about being on the back foot.”

To what degree Ukraine’s information fight was planned, or whether it sprung up organically, is unclear. What is apparent, however, is that the strategy appears to be working, and others it’s “being followed,” the officer said, and not just by the government but by civilians who are making videos and memes and sharing them online, and watching them spread “like wildfire.”

“It’s fascinating, and it’s amazing. And the Russians just do not understand how to respond to this.”

[[[French sources: Putin struck Macron as 'different' at recent meeting]]]

From State run media CNN moments ago. See, Macron has been the voice of reason and moderation during this crisis. That ain't by accident I assure you. It's a set up for when Biden needs a steady hand---a quick word. (This is it). Everybody and their sister is questioning Putin's mental state. "Everybody shut the up!" -Biden.

"Merci, Macon, qui, uh, see vue play...go ahead, monsewer." -Biden

...and Macron delivered the above assessment with solemn countenance not that eatin' grin that the State Dept. uses purposely.

Let us proceed...See, that way if Biden can possibly take him out, he'd be covered. "I had to. I had no other choice. He was insane. How are my poll numbers, Jen?"
