Judging by the results so far of the counter-offensive, it seems to me we're at the point of massively diminishing returns on our investment. I mostly supported the original aid packages, with some exceptions, but this is just ridiculous. Fortunately, I think this next package is going to be scaled back in Congress quite a bit.
I'd give my left nut to see it, 7. I want Russia to kick their ass up so high those Ukr/Nazi s can use it for a hump.

There are issues with US spending, but with two competing parties making the decisions, it is expected. If I has the answers to those questions, I would not be wasting time on ST.

However, the spending to support Ukraine to destroy our old nemesis is pennies on the dollar well worth it as it is pay back for all the crap owed and the increased power projection.
    What crap owed?

They saved us the wet work in 2.
They forgave us our deadly trespass; America's lethal plot to nuke them before we left Europe after 2.
They gave us our MIC and all that has wrought us & the world.
They posed as our boogeyman, taking time outs here & there; that one comes to mind where Putin crossed over and danced with Hillary Clinton, was it? Smiles all around, until somebody realized that the aforementioned MIC was being threatened. tee, hee. "Out, and don't come back!" MIC restored, and fully so.

I repeat, Effy, what crap, you sideshow lookin' mother er, you?

I'd call this war a stalemate at best right now. Putin isn't backing down and I wouldn't put it past him to commit larger atrocities to save face. Analysts have stated that Ukraine has no chance of winning while the US continues to give just enough to keep it alive. Even Joe fears sending too much weaponry as to not infuriate Putin. If he's that scared of Putin, then what's the point? I'm betting the bank balances of our glorious politicians tell the real story. I'm just wondering when liberals became such war hawks. But hey, keep sucking on that US government .

Biden will not get involved with his nuclear codes, unless Putin strikes the U.S., which he-will-not-do. That has been addressed & fully understood twixt the 2 of 'em from the very start. Sure, Putin will allow American boots on the Ukr/Nazi ground under the conditions that were discussed and agreed to, from the aforementioned very start..."No problem...knock yourselves out, just don't get into a pit. I'll know."

Fully half of what that old squattin' in the White House has sent Ukr's Nazi's is "humanitarian aid"...junk, swag, goody bags, you know whence I speak, kids.

& that's why Putin still holds 20% of Ukr/Nazi territory...most importantly that nuclear facility there in Zap.

Not sure what you expected with an entrenched enemy. It's not a video game.

That was the point all along so it would get us from supporting the war by proxy to being boots on the ground. We never needed to blow tons of tax dollars out in Ukraine if the powers to be didn't send Boris there to nix the peace deal. 's so stupid and such a waste!

Ukraine and Old Joe aren't going anywhere. And Putler can't win a war of attrition. The last time they tried (Afghanistan) they lost half their territory and the country collapsed. The problem for Putler is that he's scared less of NATO. He knows poking the bear means the end of his dictatorship.

Not quite a stalemate. UKR is grinding RUS down and RUS is losing equipment and men far, far faster than they can replace either.

RUS is losing about 1% of their artillery assets per day or so for the last month. Between battlefield KOs and just wearing the out of their barrels, the arty advantage has shifted to UKR, which has western kit and maintenance backing them up.

I wish we would send ATACMs and whatever other long range missiles they want. Russia, ain't no one scared of them any more.

We have been sending them stuff we had in storage. They are doing exactly what they need to do.

Without air superiority, this is what it was always going to be, especially with a minefield hundreds of miles wide. HIMARS and the other long range precision artillery coupled with the cluster munition are moving the the needle.

RUS can't even bury their dead. The corpses are simply mouldering around their trenches.

Why is this important? The HIMARS missiles, PATRIOT batteries and missiles, Javelins, artillery s s, and on and on that we donate have to be replaced at our expense. Of course this also potentially risks our own readiness to meet our various global defense treaty commitments because the replacements can't be manufactured quickly enough.

Oh, I agree that it was always going to be this way. General Mark Milley has been warning for like a year now that it would be extremely difficult to eject Russia military from Ukraine which is why he seemed to want Ukraine to start negotiating a long time ago.

Both sides are taking big casualties including Ukraine, even if they don't want to admit precisely how big.

They're fighting to reclaim lost territory. This fighting could end with a ceasefire very quickly but it would effectively lock in territorial gains for Russia, so Ukraine doesn't want it -- not while we're sending so much aid.

We should scale it back dramatically and make clear to Ukraine that we didn't agree to finance the reclaiming of all lost territory including territory lost before the full scale invasion last year (e.g., Crimea and others). And it's not just about money at this point, we're giving huge amounts of military ammo and equipment that we need for ourselves especially if Taiwan's defense is as high priority as US government makes it out to be. No doubt this is why the Pentagon doesn't want to give away F-16 and ATACMS from our own stock.

What the do you think the point of the counter-offensive is? It's to reclaim lost territory.

And why do you think Russia is so dug in defensively? It's because they've given up their ambition to destroy the Ukrainian state -- now they simply want to secure Crimea and the other territories Ukraine is trying to take back.

    It's not complicated.
