I think you’re looking at it the wrong way.

No one’s saying that the New Jersey political machine is genuinely outraged by be@ner Bob’s behavior; corruption is a time honored tradition in NJ. Menendez’s corruption has just gotten so blatant that it’s become enough of a liability for the people there who want to stay in power that they’re forced to cast him aside.

Its a matter of cutting off the infected arm to save the corrupt machine.

Democrats and the liberal media trying to say,,,see there is no favoritism for democrats regarding the departments of justice. Even though the Dems are likely to lose the senate next year, the silver lining his how much more liberal the Dem caucus will get.

We potentially have:

Sinema >>> Gallego
Carper >>> Blunt Rochester
Cardin >>> Alsobrooks
Menendez >>> Kim
Feinstein >>> Porter

Those are 5 of the worst do nothing centrists replaced with 5 solidly liberal democrats. If by some miracle the Dems hold a majority, we’d definitely see the filibuster gone and some real legislation get passed.

The filibuster is toast the next time either party gets a trifecta, no different than how the filibuster for judicial appointments would have been killed by McConnell if Reid didn’t kill it first.

Dude may actually survive this. They changed the law a few years ago where a federal employee including senators accepting cash etc. is not illegal unless they can prove that they actually did something specific in return for the cash. Politicians protecting themselves from prosecution.

Republicans know that Menendez’s corruption is a byproduct of their decades long efforts to completely gut campaign finance regulations so this kind of stuff simply doesn’t bother them.

It's actually pretty astonishing to me - Chuck Schumer has (a lot of) egg on his face over how he's handled this.

Menendez's house was raided last year when the feds found $480k of foreign bribe money in his senate jacket, yet Schumer still let him remain foreign relations committee chairman when the new senate was sworn in earlier this year. If we weren't living in the age of corruption, Schumer would be in hot water right now and there'd even be calls for him to resign.

Is the senate GOP really that myopic about Menendez possibly helping them obstruct judicial confirmations if his caucus turns against him that they're not gonna take this extremely easy opportunity to own the libs?
