You can try to handwave this away all you want but it's the furthest thing from normal for a majority GOP house to be unable to confirm a (R) Speaker.

But I guess shrugging your shoulders to historically bad/unprecedented outcomes is the new normal for team red.
im not saying any of this is good. im not sympathetic to the GOP's cause.

im just saying we've seen the hilarious face-planting of speakership votes only for him to eventually win the seat, and it wasnt that long ago

Just imagine the dollar signs flashing in the eyes of every GOP holdout who knows they can get something for their vote to flip.

Heck, people in districts with close polling races might flip to "no" just to bilk this. 20 votes shy is a catastrophic result from Jordan -- it means he can't pressure a few people to flip with the idea that they'll be in the future Speaker's good graces.

The GOP isn't even organized enough to get their ducks in a row. They tried to rush this undoubtedly to demonstrate leadership and solidarity and it detonated in their hands. Yikes. Say what you want about how troubled the Democrats are in terms of getting their house in order, but this is just sheer incompetence from the GOP. They started at 1st and goal from the 5, and now it's 3rd and 20 -- literally. Doubt Jordan many more "No" votes, which means they absolutely cannot rush the next one. All the while they demonstrate that they cannot lead and cannot form any kind of coalition even in the face of a Democratic Senate and POTUS. Yeeeeesh. The optics here are worse than in that photo Dale posts that he's obsessed with.

I bet the few wonks left in the GOP are snorting Excedrin directly off of Gaetz's coke stand.
Because they're fake ducks, Cry. This, THIS is the RINO's wheelhouse right now. No Trump as President. Now it's payback time for them, they can stick to the R's and give the D's a real treat. They'll worry about ELECTION DAY in a year. But, right now, right this second, RINO's are going to exercise their franchise and Trump in the process.

And rush my ass, Cry, there was no sense in waiting to open that door. The RINO's have been on the other side locked & loaded since Trump left, waiting to get their evens.

    eh

same thing happened with mccarthy and he eventually was confirmed
McCarthy was also a prolific fundraiser who had all the moderates in his pocket after everything he did to get them elected.

Make a deal with the Dems...you let J in and we'll not impeach Biden. I'd sacrifice that in a heartbeat.
why the would we ever do that? The GOP doesn’t even have the votes to impeach Biden in the house, let alone the 2/3rds needed in the senate.

A sham Biden impeachment would probably help his approvals.

That's part of it, you'll never convict him, so, in order to get J give in on superfluous Impeachment if it'll get you Jordan. Yeah, I'd love to rub an impeachment into Biden face, but if I have choice, one or the other...I'll take Jordan.

Offering to take a sham impeachment that goes nowhere off the table isn't much of an offer , the Dems aren't actually getting anything.

So far, all the sham impeachment inquiry hearings James Coomer has held resulted in his dip Qboomer witnesses getting carved up by Raskin, Moskowitz, Goldman or AOC. The more time the GOP wastes on impeachment, the better.

It couldn't hurt, go thru CNN/if they'll too fall for it so that it's in the annals regardless.

There’s essentially nothing the Rs could offer the Dems that would be worth making Jordan speaker for. If the Rs make Jordan speaker on their own that’s all fine and good since it gives the Dems a narrative for 2024….if the Dems help make Jordan speaker that narrative goes away.

Having several R names at the beginning of the alphabet (Bacon, Buck, Balart) who are against Jordan makes it even harder for him because they immediately give cover to other republicans on the fence in roll call votes

Yuuup. This is why when you get 20 no's, it makes it almost impossible to do anything because you can't corner anyone.

    Brilliant strategy.

So much for brotherly love in GOP.

In one of Gym’s meetings with Scalise before the first vote, Gym asked Scalise to give him a nominating speech on the floor. Scalise wouldn’t commit to doing so.
