The Nate Paul thing that precipitated the firings could come back as a criminal referral, or it could evaporate.
    I hope for the latter!!!

GOP is more than ok with a crook in charge of the legal authority of the state. Evidence was there for impeachment but failed on a (more or less) party line vote.

The federal criminal phase (so far sealed at the 5th Circuit court) might be shortly forthcoming.

Rs may have underestimated the evidence, his own subs narced Paxton out to the FBI.

Those Republican lawyers working for Paxton were not libs and they were not squish. They liked his policies

But they were horrified by what a crook their boss was.

Essentially, the situation that we're in is that we have a criminal AG that hasn't been held legally responsible for his own actions yet. And who stubbornly remains in office, even after he admits in a lawsuit that he broke the law. .

Mateer tried to talk Paxton out of what he was doing. When that didn't work, he called the FBI on his own boss.

There seem to be signs that Paxton is walking on thin ground with his own party.

That the Texas GOP has stuck with a cartoonishly sinister crook like Ken Paxton this far isn't an accident. I don't think the corruption bothers them as much as the repeated embarrassment.

If the federal grand jury returns a true bill on an FBI case against Paxton, I could see the Texas GOP finally throwing him overboard.

If you get away with it, it isn't a crime.

It's very important not to get caught, but it's also a point of valor to at least try.

What's the point of having raw power if not to abuse, grift, oppress and punish? Ethos of the conman. If you're not breaking the rules, you're not taking the game seriously.

Republicans live in the hyperlegality where the spirit of the law dies, and criminal acts are mostly acknowledged by spitting them out, like sunflower seeds.

Nah, things won’t happen that fast. The Trump DOJ will just drop the case.

The symbolism of (R)s being protected but not bound by laws is very important to them, especially now that their charismatic leader is in the dock.

When you liberals bring Pelosi up on charges for insider trading then we'll talk about Paxton,,,,,but you liberals never seem to want to hold your own accountable, so why should republicans?,,,,,,
