Adding 2 high IQ players to a low IQ team doesn't make it a higher IQ team.
Just a low IQ team +2 high ones.
And the fact that he's on a cheap deal isn't a valid argument to value a player.

yes it is an argument as we cannot fill the team with high contracts. The Spurs need another star to complement Wemby. If that star takes a max and Wemby will get a max too; you need to have players with small contracts and for 4 million you won't get much better than Champagnie. He made some mistakes tonight but he kept us in the game

42 minutes combined for Keldon and Barnes, 4/2/2 statline with horrible defense and 0-9 from 3pt.
But let's blame the minimum contract guy who enabled the comeback in the first place.
That stepback 3pt was the last straw for me.

Tough, ugly 90's style ballgame. Still a lot of growing and toughening up for this team. Hate to say it, but, trading for a star/superstar now doesn't help them grow up.

Champagnie is a role player and he played well overall. Can't expect this guy to be a star who will carry the team.
We can’t have Sochan and Castle on the court because of shooting. Johnson chose to go with Sochan, but Castle was playing better tonight.

Exactly. If we had a good SF, Champagnie would not close the games but Barnes and Keldon played pretty badly tonight.
Spurs need a second all star player. Need at least two all stars in this league.
At that stage of the game (when we were within 1 either way), I would have rolled with CP3-Castle-Champ-Sochan-Wemby. The need for 3pt shooter was diminished and the defensive presence is what was needed. There aren’t many situations where Castle and Sochan make sense… but I think this was one of them.
Also, "anyone can bring the ball up" bull needs to stop, especially in the clutch.
Not gonna blame this one on Champ. The two turnovers were obviously atrocious, but we're not in that game without him. Also Paul being your only ballhandler on the floor in that moment and being visibly gassed, and Champ getting it in the backcourt while your #4 pick rides the pine. I'm gonna need Castle to get out of the doghouse ASAP after that.
I really don't like it when Devin goes into hero ball mode.
