Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell, labelled the rise in U.S. Treasury yields “relentless,” noting that it was a reflection of “growing disquiet” over swelling U.S. federal debt.
“None of this may have looked like a problem when the Fed Funds rate and benchmark bond yields were anchored at record-lows — but it is a potential problem now,” he said in an email.
Mould added that half of publicly held Treasurys — or some $14 trillion of federal debt — would soon mature and need to be refinanced at higher rates.
“Emerging market investors will be very familiar with the risks attached to the current situation,” he said. “Higher bond yields mean higher interest bills, higher interest bills mean more debt, more debt may mean QE [quan ative easing] or efforts to loosen monetary policy, only for that to perhaps lead to higher inflation, higher interest rates, higher bond yields and around we go again.”
“This is a classic emerging market trap, except America (and for that matter Japan) are staring right into it,” Mould added.

Covid was one of those "presidential tests" that every president gets. Some get a war- if the usa is attacked- some get natural disasters to handle, some get a bad economy, etc... Trump was handed covid and all he had to do was continue to play golf, allow the experts like fauci to handle it (instead of making him an enemy and creating a mask/no mask culture war)...
and trump would have been called a hero for shepherding the country thru a pandemic of epic proportions and would have propelled trump to a lopsided win in the election...
but instead trump dropped the ball because he could not think of anyone but himself and tried to hide the problems, blame china/others, allow 1 million americans to needlessly die,etc...
Trump did collude with russia but since legally his lawyers knew "collusion" was not the real issue (treason and selling out the usa is the issue) -of course trump parroted out the "no collusion" to make the issue one he could never be convicted of
the treason played out before our eyes...manafort handed over from russia to trump campaign to run trumps campaign to russia's benefit, trump tower meeting, russian spies receiving campaign data from the clinton campaign to use on social media to twist popular opinion, facebook ads, stormy daniels bribes, "russia are you listening" out in the open, etc...
Hunter biden: Russia needed a clear path to control europe's gas/utiities and there were two energy companies in the way- One was already run by putin loyalists and all putin needed was for the other energy company - called "Burisma" to agree to allow putins pipelines to run thru ukraine....
Burisma refused...and putin went to plan "b" - and discovered hunter biden was on the board and of course it worked out beautifully - trump would get needed help to steal the election due to hunter biden embarrassing the president and the russian disinfo that would be pinned to hunter...and putin would get ukraine out of his way once trump got into office and gifted ukraine to russia..
only problem was that sleepy joe biden beat the out of trump by 7 million votes causing putin to have to invade instead of trump just handing ukraine over...
fast forward to today and study every trump decision in the russia/ukraine war and of course you know what trumps job is now.

Let's see what happens to the overall bill in the Senate. Either way, most republicans and democrats in Washington are not serious when it comes to budget deficit concerns. It's a major problem to say the least.

They're both terrible. Generally speaking, I would agree that republicans have been worse than democrats over the past 25 years. Bush set the stage for this disaster with two wars, unpaid for new benefits, etc.
