that!!! This is about getting your rookies ready with glorified scrimmages. And maybe you find a gem
I agree. This is bull and a joke. It’s bad enough we pander to the princesses at the NBA level. Now summer league too? Jordan didn’t sit out 20 games a year for rest. If the season is too long and tough for these pussies and soft ass coaches then let’s cut the season down to 60 games.

I agree, which is dumb considering they are completely different levels of prospects. If CB looked good yesterday I would be fine with him sitting today, but he looked raw and in need of as many reps as possible in a low stakes setting like summer league to try stuff. If Harper looks meh then he shouldn’t be sat, either.
Playing or not playing in a summer league game isn't going to make or break his career, I get we're all anxious to watch him play but Jeez, let's take a breathe.
Nobody is saying it is going to make or break him playing in this game.
but this is a pussy move by the spurs
He's too small.
Garcia is a turnover machine
It’s crazy some still think he is an NBA player
Dude is a black hole on offense too
Ingram gets it back, double dribbles, still can’t finish
Noone from this game lineup will stick in the NBA for more than a week
nothing new, Spurs been doing this for years. That's all Pop's tradition that has to be phased out by Mitch.
Serious question, why do the Spurs participate in the California Classic? It is clearly treated as an inferior summer league tourney to Vegas SL, the top prospects always sit it out. Seems more like an annoyance for the Spurs to attend given how they treat it.
Every year two things happen: posters are surprised that we trade second rounders, and they’re surprised that SL is absolutely garbage. Nothing is gained by playing here. It doesn’t help anyone’s development because most guys just want to show out to get a 2 way or a gleague contract. It’s like a runway show in Paris. They do their little turn on he catwalk, and they’re done.

I disagree with that, the spurs always used the SL to monitor rookie to 2nd year progress made, several instances of guys coming to the SL and proving that they have shown growth from the previous year, Not to mention guys they found such as Jonathan Simmons, Bryn Forbes, Drew Eubanks who became regulars in the spurs lineups.
Load management was great and made sense when the core of the team was playoff tested vets with injury histories to match (TD, TP, Manu) in their mid-30s. They were known quan ies as players and could be counted on to be ready when it mattered, the rest was more beneficial than reps would've been.
Trying to bring that same mentality (load management, extra rest days) to a bunch of kids who just need reps and game time more than anything and haven't even scratched the surface of their potential doesn't make sense. If the results were better (ie if we had made the playoffs at all in the last 6 years) I would be more inclined to yield to the front office expertise, but our results have been mostly terrible. Our player development has stagnated hard.
These choices just feel like the Spurs think its still 2016 with a championship in the near rear view, not a team who hasn't done this entire decade. Being unable or unwilling to adapt is not the strength PatFO (MatFO?) thinks it is.
We'll mark you down as undecided.
You know how long ago that was?
Doesn’t matter how long ago it was lol I’m saying the spurs do care about SL and use it as a tool to improve the team. Saying “Nothing is gained by playing here. It doesn’t help anyone’s development,” is naive… two summers ago we saw how Julian Champagnie came into the games and showed he was a bright prospect for the spurs to invest in.
Something is wrong with Osifo, looked like he was choking.
you gotta understand that they have never been through this process before ever since Pop started coaching. The Spurs don't understand how to operate any other way. It's stupid, but that's literally what it is. I just hope with the old man out, Mitch at the helm and Sweeney being his lead assistant, things will change over time. This bull has been going on forever.
Pop is still in the front office. Nothing will change
Yea it sucks he isn't playing, but his future is already known. These gamea are for the Spurs to find out who to keep around to try to develop in the g league. The minutes really don't matter for players on guaranteed contracts. Whether he plays good or bad won't change anything to come. It will impact all the guys trying to make a roster spot on the developmental side.
