Fortunately, we have this cool thing called the internet that lets you look up information instead of just asking the same question over and over here. I recommend www.google.com
But I'll humor you....in most cases, a free agent who signed a contract in the offseason is ineligible to be traded until December 15.

wow the douchbags have rejoined the forum.
It's hard to evaluate this signing without knowing what Spurs will do with their 14th and 15th roster spot.
If McLaughlin has been signed to be the main guard option behind Fox/Harper/Castle/Vassell, I don't like that move. I want that spot going to a more impactful player.
If McLaughlin has been signed to be the third string PG and Spurs plain to sign another guard or wing ahead of him, it's a good signing. AFAIK, he is a low maintenance player with a good at ude and who is serviceable. It makes him a fine end of the bench player. Going with a PG prospect as 3rd string player would have been a mistake for Spurs because there will be no playing time available to him to develop his game in the foreseeable future .
How impactful of a player do you envision signing on to be a fifth guard, knowing they’ll go no higher?
I was thinking Brogdon maybe? He seems like a minimum vet guy at this point but probably way better player than McJ.
Brogdon, who I’ve wanted in the past when we were trotting out TreJones and worse players, has a bit of a reputation as a clubhouse lawyer. Don’t need Anyone in a role they may think is beneath them stirring up.

I think Jordan is really the 4th PG - Primary on ball will probably always be some combo of Fox / Harper / Castle.
If Carter Bryant starts looking competent in a limited role, they might be OK with him getting the emergency wing minutes (Champagnie / Barnes / Sochan/ Olynyk/ Keldon taking most of them), with a real flyer on a Gl leaguer / camp invite / Summer league stud. If he keeps looking a year away, adding a lightly older guy so he can play in G League / be in a sit and watch / be in position to play a limited role. Someone like Amir Coffey would be great in that role.
We need 15 all-nba-caliber players or it's a failure.
No need to overthink this one, we got a good character veteran who guarantees at least some production when players in front of him are unavailable.
It's time to compete and we have enough young players to develop, McLaughlin and Olynyk are just the fringe rotation players we need to keep the team functional if an injury crisis happens.
He also solves the end of the bench shooter issue, we needed another one and size won't be an issue because we have big guards.
Exactly. Considering the four rotational guards, it always made sense for a deep bench guard to be exactly what McLaughlin is: competent enough to play when need be, but not good/young enough to gripe about not playing.
A good enough shooter to play off ball and a steady enough organizer to assist Castle/Harper, while being able to defend small, quick guards.
I wouldn't even necessarily call him the fifth guard, because in the absence of one of other four, they'd more than likely just increase/insert whoever among Johnson, Champagnie, Olynyk are towards the back/fringe of the rotation with either of the first two playing some as the nominal two, before they'd play him.
yeah... people also need to remember Fox is typically a very high minutes player. we have been accustomed to having kind of limited players like Tre Jones who even as a starter was usually playing around 29-30 minutes per game. last year a 39 year old Paul started all 82 games and averaged 28mpg. over the course of the last 5 years, Fox has averaged 35mpg. the minutes distribution will be different than people may remember.
if you look at the spurs minutes distribution in games where Fox played last year, branham/wesley basically got no real run. to be precise, in the 17 games Fox suited up for the spurs last year, Wesley only appeared in 9 of them, playing a total of 42 minutes. in non-Fox games, Wesley appeared in 49 games and averaged 13 minutes per game in those appearances. branham only appeared in 7 games and played a total of 17 minutes.
these mythical "fifth guard" minutes are not a thing as long as we are healthy. yes, we lost CP3 and his 28mpg. but we are also adding harper, and castle will likely get a few more mpg than he was last year as well. mclaughlin will get run in garbage time or will get some spot run in case of injury, and he should do just fine in that role. wolves and kings fans were quite fond of him.
Actually pretty expected of this board tbh.
Been here almost 20 years longer than you, but okay kid.
Next time, try to do your own goddamn research.

OTOH, out of all the players at Thomas & Mack yesterday, the best game was by David Jones-Garcia.
im sorry. I just want to apologize sincerely. I was sort of trying to funny and flippant and I was definitely tromping on ur guys vibe on this thread. I just had to smoke a little pot and was enlightened![]()
All good. I clapped back a little hard too. We are all here to talk Spurs basketball and that's what matters![]()
Pretty much. How many teams have a 5th guard who is actually a considerable part of the rotation and a large impact player?
Fox is a 33-35 mpg guy. Castle should get 30-32 mpg. If Harper is who we think he is, he’ll be getting 26-30 mpg once he gets his feet under him. Vassell will likely play some minutes at the 3 but he’s still probably getting at least 15 mpg at SG.
Even if one of those guys is injured, a 5th guard is likely just playing spot minutes. We don’t need a 5th guard who has to play 10-15 minutes every night to stay happy.
