Son, the 55 in my handle tells the year I was born, 1955. I've been a Laker fan since the 60's. I use the same handle at the Laker board at MSN/Fox Sports. We have our own private forum there with TRUE Laker fans, not the kind that troll all over the internet posting how great the Lakers are and how all other teams suck. The Lakers are the greatest franchise in NBA history, but let me tell you something, San Antonio is becoming one of the elite clubs too, right before your eyes! They are very capable of emerging from the west this year and beating the east. Lots of teams have motivation this season, but not sure if any unit has more than they do. Remember, they need that back-to-back to quell the doubters. The fact this is the toughest year possible to do it will prove to be a benefit to whatever team recognizes that and performs accordingly.
Well, you obviously have no clue as to why it was brilliant, so let me enlighten you....Ok, 4th quarter, Shaq is in foul trouble. Set aside the fact that Phoenix built their big lead without him, he's due to come back. Now, logic says, drive on him to the basket. Either he yields to a layup or fouls out. Surprise, surprise, "Hack-A-Shaq" starts! Now, I have seen this strategy employed countless times. Shaq usually does tend to hit enough of them to thwart it. 50% is within his reach which will give his team about as many points as they would hit shooting field goals. It does extend the game a bit, as less time ticks off the clock. So, the objective of Hack-A-Shaq is to hope he misses more than half, and to get more offensive possesions.
Now, the "Hack-A-Shaq" looked really good when D'Antoni took Shaq out of the game. This was a huge psychological blow dealt to the Phoenix coach and team. This sends the message that D'Antoni doesn't have the confidence in Shaq to ride it out, that he doesn't believe in him. Any Phoenix player may soon wonder if their coach will suddenly not believe in them.
Notice how in game two, Popovich tried the "Hack-A-Shaq" trick when the Spurs were leading. Nice test as to how Phoenix will react. Well, Shaq did his part, he started hitting his free throws as he often does. He even shrugged at the camera as if to say, "I can beat the Hack-A-Shaq, why do they bother". Notice how D'Antoni left him in the game this time. This shows he made the right move now, but more importantly shows he blundered the first game by benching Shaq.
Anyway, I will live and die a Laker fan. I know my team can't win every year, but they always rebuild and return. I am a basketball fan first. Without this game no one could be a fan of any team. LakeShow, don't be a troll here. I haven't looked at any of your posts, but check mine. I am respectful to my hosts here, which are mostly Spurs fans. They vastly outnumber us, but I have found they will respect you if you behave yourself and contribute interesting stuff. Be respectful in return, thanks. Then you won't have your ass handed to you.
Spurs friends: How often do you see Laker fans fight each other on this board? lol.
