He could dabble in the occult, or he could be in a cult - but he can't be in an occult.

So it's probably best to just leave it alone.

You would never say Emo in public or call someone Emo in front of people.

That's so ing gay, seriously. All the teeny bops are milking the out of it, seriously now... that's such a horrible insult on top of it all anyhow.

Emo isn't even sad or depressed or whatever stereotype it's being tagged with now days.
Emo is divergent off that goth , teenager angst crap that's slightly worse than the depressed "pseudo-culture" because instead of griping about their own depression, they whine about their high school girlfriends leaving them.

Basically, people who have bad taste in those crappy whiney voiced screamo -emo bands, are called emo s. And they deserve to be called s or emo. That music is ing horrible.

Way off. You are speaking from the popular understanding and hear say that's spread around the last year or so.

I am 23 now, but 4-5 years ago I moderated forums for thedilly.com. A website before myspace and facebook got huge for young people to basically make a profile and chat with people their age. Well they flopped, and my point of bringing it up is that's when people started calling other people the name "Emo" basically because a guy wore eyeliner, or a chick dressed punk but fashionable punk.

It's a stereotype as are 847324 other things.

Emo is actually a style of music, that died, in the early 90s. Obviously you might have gathered emo is short for emotion. The music was a mixture of rock a grunge, charged with emotional lyrics of death, war and chaos in our world. Not breaking up, or why she left me in a silly crying voice. That is not emo.

Emo fell off by the Nirvana wave, and they had a couple emo songs also.

Blink-182 started the pop punk teenage feel sorry for me thing in the mid 90s and carried to 2003. All of your bands like Matchbook Romance, Taking Back Sunday, Underoath, etc etc etc are stemmed from them. Their crybaby, she broke my heart, whoaaaa babyyyyyy hold meeeeeee I cut myself, crap.
Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 did an interview with MTV on how they stimulated so many kinds of music and bands, accidentally. "Nobody should ever take us serious, we have fun with our music and if we don't take it serious why should you?" Was one quote from the sit down.

Long story short. Emo is just a teenage slang now. It does not mean anything other than a style of music (that has nothing to do with what the word is referenced to now days) that simply died a long time ago.

I assume around my mod time on thedilly kids were just starting to call people that name like is was an insult. And apparently now it is.

Anyways you and 99% of the country seem to constantly use the word emo, or emo , or emo , whatever, as if it's some kind of insult saying you are too emotional and a crybaby. When that is nothing to do with the word Emo in all truth.

So basically it's annoying to me and really juvenile to use. Might as well call someone a tooty face, or a pee pee licker. That's how stupid it sounds.

I have no problem if the word "emo " has a negative connotation now. It's a stupid word to begin with, and let alone I doubt people give a if the "real" "true" emo died in the early 90's.
That's the kind of material that the stupid VH1 "experts" who devote their life to and barely sell books trying to highlight pseudo-genres of music, that no one gives a damn about by the time they're changing the channel.

I just remember in high school, it was an embarrassing peer thing/trend that started.
Also the whole "emo" for "emotional" stereotype is re ed to begin with in regards to the legitimate emotionally driven music from the Beethovens to the American blues, folk of today or whatever, is pissed upon with that stereotype that all "music" about "depressions" are reduced to or associated with whiney teenage ing, since most music is "emotional"..Now we have to live with the stereotype thanks to a bunch of stupid pre-pubescent vocalists, who don't seem to DIE and go away.
Piss poor pseudo punk pop rock, that started in the 90's and devolved into more ty music. (screamo, emo, super emo etc.)

Yeah I bet nobody cares either. Well obviously.

    And I agree.

I think for the most part when I see people using it as an insult or whatever, they might be it themselves.

Yeah and 75 years ago calling someone "gay" didn't have the same meaning as it does now. As times change, meanings of words change. Deal with it.

Emo now means a whining crybaby who listens to really ty music.
