I have no problem if the word "emo " has a negative connotation now. It's a stupid word to begin with, and let alone I doubt people give a if the "real" "true" emo

died in the early 90's.
That's the kind of material that the stupid VH1 "experts" who devote their life to and barely sell books trying to highlight pseudo-genres of music, that no one gives a damn about by the time they're changing the channel.
I just remember in high school, it was an embarrassing peer thing/trend that started.
Also the whole "emo" for "emotional" stereotype is re ed to begin with in regards to the legitimate emotionally driven music from the Beethovens to the American blues, folk of today or whatever, is pissed upon with that stereotype that all "music" about "depressions" are reduced to or associated with whiney teenage ing, since most music is "emotional"..Now we have to live with the stereotype thanks to a bunch of stupid pre-pubescent vocalists, who don't seem to DIE and go away.
Piss poor pseudo punk pop rock, that started in the 90's and devolved into more ty music. (screamo, emo, super emo etc.)
