No, it's the formula for Kobe Elimination.

I don't know if it was real bluster, or an attempt at humor. My gut says a mixture of both.

If you can have a sense of humor about it, and roll with it, that would make you fit in here fairly well. A lot of people here have good senses of humor, albeit not always when it comes to being Spurs fans.

BTW, that is the formula for kinetic energy, right?
Correct. I posted it there when arguing with a conspiracy theorist about 9-11 in the politics forum.

Given that kinetic energy(energy of motion) and momentum is kind of an appropriate metaphor in basketball, I decided to leave it there, because yes, I am that kind of nerd.

No, it's the formula for Kobe Elimination.
    KE= 1/2*m*v2

    Where KE is Kobe Elimination,
"m" is the number of times he is "m"an-handled by Bruce Bowen, and
"v" is the number of victories the Spurs will have when they win the series...

The bet was a farce from the beginning. I was just playing around, seeing if I can get a knee jerk reaction from Train Wreck. Obviously, posters jumped on it and it kind of took a life of his own. I knew nothing would come out of it. It's all good.
Damn . . . I was so looking forward for 10 more pages of this .

I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, this thread has made me laugh the most in almost 5 years on this board.

One question USAPA: When exactly did you start "fooling around"? Before or after the PMs . . .

The Lakers will be tougher. They have Kobe who is on a mission, and the Spurs have no answer for Odom.
And The Lakers have no answer for Tony Parker.
When a point guard can get into the lane like he can and will, it will create even more mismatches because people will have to come help, leaving others wide open.

aka_USAPA may not know it, but he has a strong argument for winning the bet. The statement "kobe bryant scored 25 points when bruce bowen was DPOY" is a claim that conditions on a null, which is trivially true in boolean logic.

so does he win 10k? I don't remember the terms of the bet anymore.

This will be funny 1 millenium from now.

When life on Earth has gone extinct, and alien archaeologists come to this planet and uncover this thread, hysterical tears of acid salt will come streaming out of their seven eyes.

I think the lakers are slightly harder. They got a better group around Kobe than what New Orleans has around Paul.

With that quote you acknowledged this:

Get the $10,000 ready buddy. Or decide which ball you can afford to lose. You have 2 (I'm guessing, although your words here would suggest otherwise), so pick your favorite and kiss the other good bye.

I disagree. The Lakers had a cakewalk of a draw. They are a fluke team. All they do is make their shots.

So somehow, without reading the thread, I was able to make an inference about the claim underlying the bet. You give me too much credit.

It's predicate negation. If i were to say "Kobe never scored 25 points in the land of oz". Kobe exists but oz doesnt, does that make the statement any less true?

"kobe scored 25 points in Oz" is false.
"kobe scored 25 points WHEN he was in Oz" is true.
    In the same vein,
"kobe scored 25 points WHEN Bowen was DPOY" is true.

btw, I thought 1944 was just as good an example as Oz.

This actually occurred to me when I was considering the legal aspects. Legally, he doesn't have a leg to stand on, but if one boils the whole thing down to pure logic, he would win the bet if it were judged, given the way it was worded.

My understanding of this kind of stuff is not as deep or practiced as, say, someone who programs for a living, so I didn't want to say anything. Good to know my sense of the thing was correct.

(it should surprise no one that RG's sole philosophy course in college was on logic)

seems like alot of people in this thread got pwned (inadvertently) by USAPA =)

This thread, if it had a sound track, would have "dueling banjos".

I think I killed it. Sorry.
