I handle my end of the finance though but I'm not a loan officer at a bank. I work with them and together we try to get deals bought and customers what they want. So I work closely with loan brokers, loan officers, bank VPs(whoever can change deals up) and I do most of the credit pulling when needed.
It makes you look so much better when you point fingers but completely avoid actually saying what you're accusing me of.

You make timely payments on everything. Your daily, weekly and monthly bills.
Start off with a small loan secured or unsecured depending on how banks are buying.
Pay on time again.
Secure larger loans
Maybe a credit card or two
Keep balances below 25% of available limit. Never be late. Always use your bank when available and avoid doing applications at dealerships or when you aren't serious.
Most importantly don't stretch out beyond what you can afford. Keep your debt to income below the 40% mark.

I'm not an underwriter. I work with them.
My job is defined as sales but since I work at a small dealership I end up having my nose in pretty much the entire purchasing process. Which in turn has taught me all the inner workings of how sales and purchasing plays out. I know what banks think when they look at credit and I know what matters and what doesn't. I also know how to completely someone out of 1k without them know it. This is the kind of information I'm happy to pass on but McD hates me for....I guess he thinks I'm being arrogant by helping.
