I'm sure that would go over real well in a rape victim's unit...you're a bust.

    WHO'S HOT

Guard Jeremy Richardson -- who played 27 games for Memphis, San Antonio and Atlanta last season -- had 21 points in 30 minutes as the Hawks beat Dallas 89-74 in the Revue opener.

Richardson, from Delta State, shot 8-of-14 from the field.

Atlanta also got 20 points off the bench from Luke Jackson, a 2004 lottery pick who has bounced around the NBA and the NBA Development League after a back injury derailed his career early on.

Recently signed Gerald Green led the Mavericks with 20 points off the bench.

San Antonio's 2008 first-round draft choice, IUPUI product George Hill, led the Spurs with three assists and 21 points with 6-of-14 field shooting in 27 minutes. "

lol its funny see'ing Hill's name in the Hot category

Slowly but surely piecing together their statsheet . . .
damn it's almost as bad as that crappy video feed they had for the game. Maybe they will have the box score ready by the time the second Spurs game starts.

So you guys spend 4 games saying "it's just summer league" to write off his bad performances but now his 21 points is cause for chest thumping after another pre-pre-season game? Hilarious!
His offense has always been there. His bad shooting performance during the Vegas SL games was just the opportunity cynics, doubters and haters needed to begin calling Hill a bust, no good, etc.

He showed he can score in this game.

    Hill dominates

The Spurs have made getting late first round draft value an art form, and it seems as if they've gotten another very good point guard with a later pick. George Hill was the best player in Friday's session, and it wasn't that close. He destroyed Utah's guards off the dribble, completely turning around Kevin Kruger on one memorable crossover. He scored a game-high 21 points, and he did it while seemingly not forcing the action once. Right now, the guard from IUPUI looks like the perfect backup for Tony Parker.

"I can't say right now what's going to happen during the season," Hill said. "There's still a lot of time. All I can do is stay ready, and if my time comes, it comes."

Gotta love the fickleness of summer league play.

I don't think the Salt Lake Tribune was anointing him a bust and wasted pick or calling out the front office for being stupid and drafting. That great distinction belongs to some of the Spurs very own fans.

Thanks now we know every player in Utah is, indeed, white.

There isn't enough minutes at PG for both Hill and Parker.
Spurs should trade one. Parker is the likely goner because he ahs a a higher trade value than Hill.

I'd say Vaughn is an insurance at this time.

If Hill turns out to be a capable back-up, Jacque will become back what he was signed for, which is a 3rd PG.

But if Hill struggles, Vaughn will be here, as a vet who already knows the system.

    No I meant Parker.
I just follow the Spurstalk trend of overreacting at everything.

I agree with you about Vaughn. He is a great insurance and I don't see the need to trade him.

REally, pop is unhappy with his d? Thats funny, he is quoted to the contrary below...

The most important expert still firmly in Hill’s camp: Popovich.

“He’s shown us two things,” Popovich said. “One, that he is a legitimate NBA defender. He’s done a very good job on some very high draft picks in this (Las Vegas) camp.
What's Pop going to say? 'His defense sucks and he'll probably wont make the team'? Of course he's going to cut him some slack. And he played well defensively last night. If he keeps it up it won't be a problem then.

No..but Pop is pretty zero tolerance about defensive play. He is infamous for yanking players out of games for missing defensive assignments. So for him to say something like that about Hill's defense is just about as good as it gets from a praise standpoint.

That has been exactly my point all along. Pop will not tolerate him missing assignments or not keeping up with his guy. And he did those things in Las Vegas for two and a half games. Right now Pop is not going to drill his confidence, but come season time, there will be no more passes on bad defense.

I'm sorry, just didn't see that at all. I saw games 1 and 3 in Las Vegas and other than 2 back door cuts by Nate Robinson, I didn't see missed assignments by Hill. I think Hill did very well defensively. In fact I thought he was the best transition defender the Spurs had. He kept up with his man just fine most of the time. He played back away from Mayo a little more in the first half of Game 1 but other than that I'm not sure where you could criticize him for missing assignments or playing bad defense.

He had the same problem he had with Nate on game two, whoever he was playing against. It really stood out to me in that game, and I figured it wouldn't happen again in game 3 after a Pep talk from the coach, but it did. It didn't happen last night, and his screwups on switching the pick and roll defense were also down. I suspect coach had a talk to him about it.
