Im not completely sold on Vaughn or Hill as the backup PG, I still feel like we need a more solid Veteran capable of hitting the outside shot. Vaughn showed that when left open he was not able to knock it down consistently and Hill is just unproven. Am I the only one who thinks that Vaughn and Hill are not the answer to that role?? Im not here to start an argument about Hill, but I just think he may need a year or two to be a solid back up. If we are going to make a serious run would you be content with Vaughn or Hill as the back up??
That is the good thing about signing Mason, if Hill cant get it done at first Mason will eat up some point mins. Im sure Hill will be Ok so dont worry.

I do think we need a true SF on our roster, one who can get to the basket. I am hoping we trade for one or go after someone like Ricky Davis or Green from summer league.

I think the spurs are gonna make a trade for someone this offseason, might not be a major move but something that will add youth and depth to the bench. Ariza maybe cause I dont think hes gonna get the run in LA anyway.
Or a big man like Williams or Boone from NJ.

No one truly knows what Hill can do at the NBA level on a consistant basis at this point. Right now it's anyone's guess and there are equal arguments for and against him blossoming into a star....or at least a guy who can run the offense well enough to give Parker and Manu a rest. We'll just have to wait and see. I would hope he would be able to shave major minutes off of Vaughn's PT, as he seems to have the potential to, and prevent the Spurs from having to search for a 3rd PG when the main focus should be SF and up if anything.

I think the point guard position is completely set: Parker is entering his prime and capable of playing many minutes if needed. Hill has already shown himself to be a good defender, a good rebounder, and a low TO guy. Vaughn is steady and unspectacular. Mason can play some point. Manu can play some point. The worse case scenario is Hill has early season trouble adjusting and doesn't get many minutes, which could result in something like this:

    Hill: 3 mpg at point
    Vaughn: 5 mpg
    Mason: 4 mpg
    Manu: 4 mpg

That still leaves Parker to play only 32 mpg.

Once we pull off that mid-season trade (Bonner for LeBron) we'll be good. Don't worry, people.

during the season yes, they might help tony get some rest, but come PO time, vaughn will get benched and so will hill(if he makes the team) manu will be tonys back up again(meaning we live and die in the hands of manu again) and sometimes thats not a good thing.......

The previous le years had role players who came up big during the playoffs (e.g., Jaren Jackson, SJax, Kerr, Horry). I just don't see who that would be this time around.

Extremely hard to win with this roster...but we might get lucky or new bloods stepping up....if new guys kick as then we barely need luck. All hail to King James....Gist =P

Wait..maybe we just sign Fin just in case we need more players as a trade bait combined with pick,Bonner or whoever......or he can just hang around and share his wisdom, whatever that is...

Who really predicted Jack and Jaren would come up that big in the playoffs? Even Kerr after his first go-round?

No. Expecially if we don't bring back Kurt Thomas. Bring in Thomas, sign another shooter/slasher like a Maurice Evans type player, and re-sign Finley (or if we don't than sign another FA that shoot like a Giricek), than there's probably a 50/50 chance we win against NO to make it to the WCF. However, I don't see us beating LA. They're going to be almost unstoppable with that team. We actually have a really good team and any other year a true contender, but LA's size is going to bother us tremendously, and I see no realistic chance of us, or anyone, beating them next year. We probably will have a 20/80 chance of beating them.
Maybe if we steal Vujacic from the Lakers, that would even the chances. They already lost Turiaf, although they may just gain Bynum.

I think our odds are better than 20/80 with the inclusion of a lot of youth, athleticism and length.

Hill - good give both Fisher and Farmar fits on both ends.
Mahinmi - lengthy enough to guard Odom, Gasol or Bynum.
Gist - should plug defensive hole in SF. Will guard likes of Radmanovic,Ariza
Toliver - should be able to guard Radmanovic or Odom
Mason - more offense when Manu isn't around.

Man unless the Big 3 have just a tremendous season and stay healthy the whole time, I think the Spurs will be lucky to win more than 50 games.

If the Big 3 don't stay healthy it will be more like 45 games max.

I can hear cries of babies echoing down the corridor of doubt.

Man, this team is gonna be awesome to watch this year. I like the direction where we are going. We have had a great decade, and remember where the team was before? Lighten up, it could be worse.

The Spurs have won at least 2/3 of their games every season but one, since Duncan arrived, that's 10 out of 11. They fell just short in 2000, winning 53 of 82.

Any team that can win 2/3 of their regular season games can win the NBA le.
