I'll say one thing - the US are fitting champions, but no-one is scared of them any more. And they sure as aren't a "Dream Team". There will only ever be one of those.
Honestly, if you asked them that question they agreed, they only wanted to be THIS team, they didn't want to be compared to 92.

When you own your own business you can't do that

I'll make up for it on the 14th through the 16th of September

    VEGAS baby!
Well say something when they hit the podium so I can go back to my TV!

I'm sorry to disrespect you but come on man.... be happy we won and shut that downer up!
Truth is the rest of the world still sees it is very possible to beat the US. If a team led by Pau freakin' Gasol can almost pull off the upset, the bar isn't set too high.

Some one give me a game analysis of what happened.
Ball go in hoop many times. No interior defense and rebounding. Dwayne Wade and Kobe Bryant led the way. Rudy Fernandez had a sick 3 and dunk.

    Country smack is lame.
How about we call it even and I get the beers and celebrate USA's gold
Ah, no. Manny bet me $50 that US would win by more than 30. So I'll collect that, buy Manny a drink 'cause I'm a good winner, and then you can buy me one.

Meh. The US didn't really re-establish itself as the basketball power. Being in a close game against a team without arguably their best player isn't a way to close these Olympics out. They needed a 30 point blowout to shut up the critics and reclaim their past glory.

Now the rest of the world can say that if the US didn't knock down more threes than usual, didn't get a favorable whistle at some points of the game and had to go against a squad that wasn't starting a prepubescent point guard, it would have been totally different.

Nice win but the US of A is about domination ... not simply winning.

The same situation was in Syndey

But americans were saying - WE GOT GOLD! NUF SAID!

All in all that was no redemption

I think the days of the USA dominating are over. The players and coaches know it. It's time fans know it now too.

Calderon definitely would have made a difference but who's to say Rudy wouldn't have stepped up like he did.

It was also USA's worst defensive performance this tourney. Spain did what they were supposed to do and almost pulled it off.

I just think you need to realize we are not on some untouchable level of dominance nor will we ever be again. Well you knew the first part already. But my point is you should be even more proud now.

    Why?

Because we beat a more talented basketball world and won the gold this time. Think about it.

Seriously though, I hope the US retires on top. Let college players participate again. You reclaimed gold now go out on top. Doing this all over again won't be nearly as easy. This team wanted revenge. In four years it'll be back to boredom.

That's true. It's also true that basketball has spread worldwide and Team USA will never have the type of easy world compe ion it had in 1992.

USA ed around too much in this game. They just had to find out if they could flip the switch when it got close so there would be no question about if they could win a close one...everybody already knew they could dominate, so not much would have been gained by them doing so.

They wanted it close to prove they could do it, at any point they wanted, they wanted Spain to have a chance to take it, to give them a reason to fight their hardest at the end.

Made for a better finish but the cloeseness of this game was artificially created by the players...

    Example:
I could have gone outside and took a piss while that one guy was allowed to spot up for a 3 . Then they did it again on the same posession...

I don't know how any basketball fan couldn't get hyped over a game like that, with so many runs, so much bad blood, and so many talented players on the floor.

True. Shouldn't any team with Kobe and Lebron just dominate? I thought they were going to lose the lead with about 5 mins left. Although I hate Spain's arrogant asses, I found myself wanting them to win at the end with Kobe putting his finger to shhhh the crowd. Can't that guy ever be graticious or act like he's been there before?

Yes, I know, but amongst fans and commentators there has been a lot of comparison, and I find it insulting.

Redeem Team is a good name for these guys - they won with grit and skill and teamwork, and for the most part they were good sportsmen ( ing Kobe is a smug SOB though, he really rubs me the wrong way).

The opposite actually. In four years they'll be out to prove they are the supreme reign of the basketball world. They will know what to expect and know the level is evened out.
