Why so much emphasis on oil? We should be looking for alternative fuels NOW instead of wasting our time on oil.

Alternative forms have probably been available for years. Just squelched by pig oil. It's not a demoncrat or repug issue, both are lobbied by the oil pigs, both suck off the corporations.

$8/gal or more would be the best thing to happen to USA. It would FORCE huge efficiencies in transport fuel, electric cars, alternative fuels, driving down oil consumption MUCH more that drilling more for oil would increase supply.
Still haven't answered my questions about how much proven oil on/offshore and why aren't the oilcos already sucking it up?

I would agree with you if alternate energy was ready to replace oil. It isn't. If we don't drill while we develop other sources, we will have some very expensive energy costs in a few years. We simply are not there yet to rely on alternative energy sources.
I hope you liberals remember to blame the democrats when that happens if they manage to keep oil production stalled.
Wind can help, but is intermittent.
Solar power is nice but I don't think there is a payoff in it yet. By the time the costs pay for itself, the solar cells lifetime is up. I think they still only last about 10 years before they start to degrade notably.
Hydrogen fuel cells in cars would be great. As far as I know, most of the design problems are solved. Still, it takes 44 kilo-watt-hours of power to make the equivalent of 1 gallon of gasoline. That power has to come from somewhere. Other methods of generating hydrogen with less energy are not green. In fact, rather nasty.
Nuclear power is a good way to go, but will the liberals and green weenies ever let it happen?
Hatter, what good ideas are out there? Of all the ideas that sound good, they simply have other problems.
There are plenty of proven reserves out there. Why bother looking it up when the democrats wont let us go there. There are probably ten times as much oil out there waiting to be discovered too. What's the point of paying to look for it if we cannot dill it?

I wasn't talking about liberals you partisan hack. I was talking about us as Americans. You do know there's a limited supply of oil in the world right? I guess you couldn't give a as along as republicans win something.
Corporations ARE looking for alternative fuels now. They haven't found any that can be brought to market in the mass scale necessary to replace oil.
And even if they did, it would take decades to completely retool our infrastructure.
Oil is a necessary evil until the alternatives can be brought to market. That's what is so stupid about you lib s. You don't want us to be dependent on oil, but there isn't a freakin' alternative to fill its void.
And who gives a if oil companies aren't looking into alternative fuels as much as lib s want? There are billions of dollars to be made by anyone who comes up with a replacement to fossil fuels. There's a ton of research being done, and someone will come up with a solution.
But until that, we need to make use of the resources available to our country to survive.

The only people winning right now are in the Middle East who are selling us oil and the oil companies who are laughing at all the liberal ecobull that is helping to drive up the cost of oil and keep us from tapping our own resources.
The day someone comes up with an alternative to fossil fuels, it will be shared with the world and we will all benefit. Until then, I'd rather not have the future of this country hinge on dictators in Venezuela, Russia, and the Middle East, wouldn't you?

I'd like to see alternative fuels as well. I'm sorry your reading comprehension sucks. Until I can go down to the corner station and fill up on natural gas, or some super secret new fuel that the libs are sitting on while telling us we can't drill, can't use nuclear, no new coal plants, etc. you look like just another liberal sheep that can't think for himself.
Haha I'm the sheep? That's rich. When did you start supporting natural gas? Was it before or after billionaire Boone Pickens came out with his snazzy TV commercial. Like I said before, solar and wind are already functional but continue to be UNDERUTILIZED. There's also bio-fuels and geothermal energy that have yet to be tapped.
