biden sounded like a career politician and a big part of our problems. Palin started off slow and finished strong. She is the future if she wants to be.

Shes just not a politician. Thats all.

People wanting her to come out and be slick, and all Bill Clinton are gonna have to get over it.

It's funny how different people see things. I'm Republican and I thought she was embarrassing and came off as stupid.

I think Biden was substantively sound and rhetorically strong, which I think helps Obama a good deal -- or, as Manny says, at least doesn't hurt him. I thought Biden did the right thing to focus his criticisms on McCain while offering up a good chunk of Obama's platform with solid rationales.

I didn't get a lot of substance from Palin -- she dodged too much on several substantive matters, went frequently to canned talking points about her folksiness, and seemed overly reliant on canned information that was meant much more to attack Obama than to argue for McCain's policies.
One of the things I mentioned early on today was the fact that while I thought it would be very hard for Palin to fail to meet expectations I also thought she might have a lower ceiling because of this. In other words, while she may not be able to make you think she's any dumber, she's got an almost zero chance to convince you she's a genius. I think this was really apparent through out the debate when the focus group simply refused to react in a postive or negative manner to many subjects Palin spoke on.

On Biden, I really thought he had to play prevent defense the entire night and simply bend but not break. Instead for the most part he just threw punches at McCain knowing that Palin couldn't do much to deflect those punches for fear of doing something really stupid. He really found opportunities for gain where I didn't foresee any gain. It was interesting, because while the debate was Biden v Palin, Biden made it Biden v McCain and there was nothing anyone there would do to change that. It was an absolutely excellent strategy and it was carried out in an almost flawless manner.

    Question about bankruptcy law:

Biden answer: ...I don't think John McCain supports that
Palin answer: No we don't. That was a short answer so I'd like to go into my record....energy...I'm a ing re

Are you guys kidding me? How can anyone think she won? She didn't do as poorly as many thought (walking off stage or taking a big steaming on stage) but she had prepared answers and stuck to them. I'm flabbergasted that anyone think she did well. You can not sound like a complete moron when you stick to coached answers...but not during a damn debate!!!

I want her to come out and look and sound like someone who belongs 2nd in line to the Presidency. She doesn't.

Can you picture her in a room with this country's decision makers? Other countries? Can you imagine that scene? I've been in meetings where the executive had Palin-esque qualities. Nothing gets done and everyone leaves more confused than they were when the meeting began.

Raising taxes isn't the solution to save our country. It's lowering government spending.
Yeah, that's super easy. Epically when we have people on the right who simply can't say to themselves that ending this war is the right thing to do.

Obama likes to talk about raising taxes, and that's all well and flowery liberal bull , but he's also proposing just under a trillion in new spending as well.

It's funny how you fat cat repubs can't get on google and do searches before making claims.

"The non-partisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget calculates that Obama has promised a total of $990 billion in new spending over his first four-year term. At the same time, he has also proposed spending cuts that amount to around $989 billion, so the net cost roughly balances out."

It's amazing that board liberals have been ing left and right about the economy the last week, but y'all are jazzed about a candidate that wants to spend more than what the estimate for the bailout program on new socialist bull .
Yeah, spend but cut the same amount. (above)

Just what appeals to all you clowns about us becoming more like the former USSR, Cuba, China, North Korea, etc.?
    You're such a moron.

CBS poll has Biden the winner 46-21

    CNN was 51-36 Biden

He's got both the major instant reaction polls by fairly large margins.

Contrary to last time, however, the focus groups seem to be splitting to both parties.

To me Palin is like that person in debate club who memorizes 5 talking points before debate and then if you ask her anything she isn't prepared for, she just goes back to repeating one of the talking points she memorized - no matter the relevancy. The problem is that in reality you have to be able to think on your feet, answer real life questions and improvise. She has shown me no indication any time that I have heard her talk that she has the ability to do that.
