I have one question....what exactly was Biden's position on Gay Marriage?
He's for it in a governmental sense but he framed it in a civil sense. It was quite brilliant, IMO. He said that he was against it and threw in the word civil so just to mean that he didn't want churches etc etc being told who they had to marry. The thing is most people who care about this aren't going to pick up on the "civil" qualifier.

Yeah, I just had an epiphany there. We've gone 37 pages on the freakin' vice presidential debate, and in the end it doesn't really matter. D.C. will still the rest of us over for their own interests in the end.

    *sigh*

I think the best counterbalance would be if Palin in the middle of the debate or an interview just began to raise the roof.

    Too much?
She's already giving shout outs and talking about "back 'n da day" so she's halfway there.

Sorry, when I can learn to link speechs, I'll get back to you.
Find it in writing if you want it to be considered legit. Politicians, and that includes McCain and Obama, will say anything.

I wonder why TPark never answered my question. He keeps complaining about his taxes being raised, I asked him to go look at Obama's tax plan and take a look at how much his taxes will go up.

It turns out if you make between $227k-603k your taxes will go up a whopping $12. TPark your taxes will go up $12.

My problem with Biden in this debate was that he answered questions at a very superficial level for the most part. He often spoke in generalities. I don't know if it was the format of the debate or his opponent, but he didn't display much of the "expertise" on issues that he was supposed to bring to the ticket.

He also had a tendency to follow Palin down the rabbit trail. When her answer wasn't in response to the question asked, Biden would respond to her answer and then try to respond to the question that was initially asked. It made his answer sound disjointed. It's like he was trying to dance to the beat of a mad drummer.

Some transcribed highlights of Morris vs. Colmes (all from Morris)

Alan, why do you insist on using sentiments on me to get reading practice on your talking points...
    Save that for a Republican.

If you are going to have me on you are going to listen to what I have to say...
As far as I'm concerned in the last debate I said that I thought Obama won and this debate I think that she won and I don't think that objectivity and fairness deserves your just spewing the talking points that you've been handed.

You are incredible Alan, you are absolutely incredible.
Is it that you can't think, or that you only know how to read those talking points...

Computers have been around for a while now. Maybe you meant personal computers? If so, those have been around since the 80's.

If you're talking the dot com era, and it becoming huge, well, that really didn't occur until the late 90's.

    Clinton barely felt it.

I think she shoudl have given Joe Biden a fist bump. Then she would probably have won the debate.

For me this thread is less about the actual debate and more a sad reflection of our willingness to forgive and accept absolute mockeries of the highest positions in our government because of the lack of decent options we're given to fill those positions.

Palin stopped the bleeding tonight, but did nothing to regain any ground for the McCain campaign. She can never do a straight interview again though, because someone is going to nail her for wanting to somehow expand the vice-president's power after the Cheney disaster.

Biden didn't say anything stupid and didn't take any bait. Seemed like he was talking past Palin by referencing McCain almost exclusively, but that's really all that was needed.

Fifty-one percent of those polled thought Biden did the best job in Thursday night's debate, while 36 percent thought Palin did the best job.

Again, Obama thinks he's going to tax that top 5% to pay for everyone else.

What happens when they find loopholes to hide their money, or say it and move all their assets to Dubai, Ireland, New Zealand, etc. and tell Obama and co. to piss off?

Then the tax burden gets shifted to the rest of us! Yay!

The conservatives are especially sour because they know this election is over. Obama is going to win and they will have to see a black man as President for the next 4-8 years and it kills them.

Tough position to be in, really -- he doesn't follow her rapid subject changes and all of us are talking about Biden being too afraid to address her points.

They didn't do this under Clinton's tax levels, so why would you assume they would when Obama puts taxes back to those levels?

Way to play the race card. Is that all you have?

I'm bitter because I'm watching my country that I love fall apart. Bush has done a horrible job as president, and for that he should never be forgiven.

But if you think Obama won't move this country even further down the path to destruction and collective financial insolvency with his socialist platform, you're a ing idiot.

I don't think McCain is the answer, but Obama's an even worse choice, which is why I'm backing McCain. Either way, with the candidates we have we move a little bit closer to that point of no return that once passed means the collapse of this nation as a superpower, and more practically and of concern to me and you, as a great place to live.

All you idiot Obama nuthuggers seem unwilling or unable to recognize the inherent danger in his platform and see his collective body of work (reading his books, looking at the influences on his life, etc.) for what it is.

How does Morris get paid to be a pundit? The man's a ing idiot. You should look at his electoral maps and his articles. They're the biggest crock of I've ever come across in my life. He's just so..so.. ing stupid?

My impression from the debate is that Palin convinced me she's actually not stupid. At the same time, it also made me feel like she just doesn't have the knowledge that the position she's seeking requires. She did well tonight, just not game-changing well.
I thought Biden did well overall. I was really expecting at least an outburst from him, and he not only did not do it, he came out as pretty serious (even though I don't necessarily agree with some of his talking points).

At the end of the day, neither had a major blunder, and that's what probably both campaigns wanted. 30 days to go, and it's all going to be on McCain and Obama now.
