I think you struggle with the wrong notion. Those like me do not struggle with God, we struggle with church and the creations of man in the name of God.On the other hand, I sometimes struggle to understand why people who recoil from the God of the Bible nevertheless take offense at the idea that they might have to stay away from him for eternity. Wouldn't that be your preference?
Let me put it this way so its clear.
If the Bible is true, every word of it, no interpretation, no bull , then that is a God I care not to meet.
But if the Bible is metaphorical and its only the overarching sentiment that needs to be heeded, and the rest of the exclusionary nature of the Bible is the parts that humans put in for tools of control, then God is truly all loving and I would enjoy meeting him very much.
Finally, even outside the Bible, if Jesus is the ONLY path to God (his Father), then again, I feel sorry for those who werent born into Christianity and have no means of even hearing of it. Like the jungles of Africa or the Aborigines in Australia, because they are supremely ed.
Which is why I dont believe that bull . If God is real, then He resides and waits for all man, regardless of creed or their profession to His son. The Bible is nothing more than a man-made construct of control. If Jesus did live and die as it says, then his words and its meaning have been so twisted and misinterpreted and otherwise molested in order to fit the worldview of those who posthumously wrote it as to become irrelevant to Jesus' original intention.
And for that perversion, the Churches who preach this heresy have a special place in reserved for them.
All in all, I believe in a God, just not the God most people think of when considering the prospect. My God is life itself. The morality that exists in you when born, that innate difference of knowing right and wrong. That murder and theft is bad, while charity and good will feels good. That is God, no more, no less. Interesting thread
As "different" as Angel's take by me, she's far from alone in that stance. There are going to be millions of votes caste during the election following similar logic. Whether it is people who think Obama is really the anti-christ or really a terrorist sent to infiltrate our government, this is an inescapable truth.
And really, I'm fine with people voting for whatever reasons seem right to them. Angel stood up to the fire in this thread and if she still feels the same way, she should be able to vote how she wants. Freedom of thought in America is one of the best aspects of this country. Without it, a true democracy doesn't exist. You can call her crazy if you want but to say she shouldn't vote is more Un-American than anything she has said in the thread.
