Your vehmently arguing against Tolliver when even Ginobili has said hes a lock to make the roster.

    Sorry.
I would only correct that Manu thinks he's a lock. He's obviously more involved inthe day-to-day of the team than we are, so it gives the comment more weight. That said, nothing is garanteed with Pop at the helm (well, perhaps with the exception of Vaughn)

No I'd say Duncan and Pop liking him is as much of a lock as your gonna get.

He hasn't shot the outside shot well at all in the preseason. Preseason is a lot better than summer league. I'd have to say Matt Bonner has shot better from the outside in preseason play.

Whats that got to do with Tolliver making the team?

Hes a athletic 4 who can shoot the outside shot.
Except that he hasn't shown any shooting ability since summer league.

Hes more athletic than Bonner and he can shoot the rock better.
Except that he isn't and so far he hasn't. Besides, the choice is not between him and Bonner You're willing to give up Hairston or Farmer for him?

Hairston? No because I think hes got a great future.

Farmer? Maybe, hes a little too one dimensional for my tastes.

Tolliver played well tonight and made his shots.

Again, I don't get the hate on this guy.

Exactly. Why would his outside shooting (or lack thereof) have anything to do with whether he makes the team? His lack of a post game, defense and rebounding don't seem to.

lol Manu also said in that interview than Mason would probably make the team. I don't think Manu is too impressed with any of them? I mean it sounded like he didn't even know Mason had a contract already and he doesn't have to make the team.

No I don't see what Matt Bonner has to do with him making it. Bonner has not played well one but, but Tolliver IMO, and obviously the opinion of others, has out played him.

Greg Simmons on KSAT12 TV Sportscast at 10:20 tonight was showing highlights of the Wizards v. Spurs game. One of the plays showed Tolliver swishing a three from the left corner and Simmons commented: "I don't know if Pop wants his Center taking threes but here is Anthony Tolliver making one from the corner, with 9 tonight."

Ah, the casual observance of Spurs basketball.

Possibly, but I think someday we're going to be talking about how the Spurs could have had him. He's a good passer, a decent defender, and a cold blooded scorer. If Pop sees as much of Jack in him as I do then I think Tolliver's spot isn't guaranteed, especially after tonight.

You're sure counting on that. I don't know why you care so much what other people think. You're like a remora.

Even if he didn't know that Mason was under contract, the fact that he believes both Mason and Tolliver are making the team I think speaks volumes how Tolliver has positioned himself above the other rookies.

ESPN and NBA.com both have Tolliver listed as a center. I'm not sure how anyone could mistake him for a 5. I can't even bring myself to think of him as a 4.

He must be tearing it up in practice, then.

I have the same thoughts about Tolliver as you do OV, but I'll give Pop and Duncan the benefit of the doubt..they both seem to like him..

I don't mind Tolliver, as long as I see Farmer and Hairston on the team too..I don't wanna lose either guy, because I think we'll end up regretting it at some point, like OV said..they're both exactly what we've been looking for..

Hairston give us the athletic type that can slash and D up..with Farmer on the team, we'd have Manu, Mason, Finley and Farmer..those are 4 shooters, that gives us plenty of options during our notorious shooting droughts..

Yeah those 9 points he had tonight on some good shooting showed nothing.

Either that or he's a strong character guy, or Pops just likes what he sees an thinks he's an easier guy to mold...

I'm not focusing on the word "Center". I'm more focused on Greg's lack of understanding that Tolliver, heading in to this game, was leading the Spurs in 3-point attempts and was brought in as a FA because of his 3-point shooting display in Summer League.

    I'm just sayin....

All things being equal, Tolliver wouldn't make the team based on his preseason performances. He's been trigger happy but bad field goal percentage sad. Defense and rebounding are decent but not they aren't traits that separate him from the pack. That said, reading between the lines, he's a near lock to make the team. Why? Don't really know. Maybe summer league means that much to the Spurs or perhaps Tolliver is shooting great in practice. Or maybe it's because the Spurs already have $200K invested in him.

But if you just go by preseason, RMJ doesn't stand way out from the swingmen invites. RMJ has been decent but it's tough to say he has thoroughly outplayed the likes of Farmer and Hairston.

These cuts are going to be really interesting.

Was that Greg Simmons defending Robert Horry in Game 5 of the 2005 Finals? Same scouting report on not thinking Spurs bigmen like to shoot threes.
