If they have to extend themselves this much while Manu is out, they will be burned out by the All Star break...

Im not sure if Duncan and Parker can play any better. The Spurs can't count on those guys to play that well every night.

Someone else has to step up.

They've got to get stops, and Duncan's the only inside defender.

Pop coached a very y game.

    Hacking shaq in the opening
Playing Bonner in the last 5 minutes.
Putting finley in and not bowen
not calling timeout to set up a play but rather lets them scramble for a broken play

    very unlike "pop"

it seems like he coached a game that he knew that they were going to win regardless of what he does.....or is it just me

Oberto wouldn't have helped. Ginobilli was the big piece missing. I considered it a fairly even game since phoenix has a new coach. I missed most of it but it sounds like Matt Boner got way too much playing time.
Yeah, a new coach balances out your top scorer, starting center and three reserves.

I'm thinking cut Farmer and someone else to bring in Hairston and Watkins.

This defense tonight sucked. I've realized that I would much rather have good Defense than good Offense.

You could have used Watkins tonight in 5-10 spot minutes. It would have been better than having Bonner trying to guard Amare and Shaq.

What grades would you guys give out tonight?

    I'd say

    Tim A
    Tony A-
    Mason B-

    everyone else a D or F.

I'd give Mason an A, considering this was his first game as a Spur, a couple more of these gems and he'll prove he deserves the starting job. And I think Ime outperformed Bruce as well imo.

I didn't notice anything drastically different tonight about this team and the championship Spurs teams, other than Manu wasn't out there. Without Manu and Oberto, we can't expect the Spurs to play earth shattering ball.

Besides, the Suns didn't do anything spectacular tonight. They just made their shots and we didn't. Nothing special.
Um, the Spurs had a better shooting percentage than the Suns (Spurs 50.0% to Suns 49.4%).

I am quite optimistic after watching this first game! I am still pretty upset that Pop hasn't solved the Nash/Amare pick and roll.

I am thinking make Nash beat you. If he is the one taking all the shots, Amare doesn't touch the ball and won't get into a rythym. What do you all think?

New Coach = Learning a brand new system, one that is markedly different from D'Antoni's 7-Second Blitz.

I'd say he has a point.

I had to work (yeah, I know, on opening night ) but I just got done watching the game. Overall, I think we played a great game. I was very impressed with Roger Mason. If he can consistenly knock down those jumpers, we're in great shape. Too bad we didn't have Manu, Oberto, and Mahinmi tonight.
