become a cowboys fan
Ah , youre right. I did mean 2001.
Martz has been blamed for everything including the ebola virus.
Hes going to tear the Lions secondary apart. ing. Pathetic.
I support my hometown teams or I dont support any team at all.
Thus the reason I dont watch much of the NFL and have no real perspective on the sport in general.
The Lions have been mediocre-to-piss-poor since I was 13. Im 28.
It will never end.
31-13....does that qualify as "running it up"?
Serious question.
@ the Lions.

At least there is some hope for the franchise after that old coot is dead.Ford Jr.: Millen should resign
Daniel Howes / The Detroit News
Bill Ford Jr. wants Matt Millen out as president of the Detroit Lions.
"It's embarrassing," Ford told The Detroit News Monday on the sidelines of the Detroit Economic Club. "The fans deserve better, and if I had the authority I'd fire the general manager."
Millen has been CEO and president of the Lions since 2001, and the team is headed for an eighth straight losing season with a 0-3 record in the first three games. The Lions are 31-84 under Millen, who Ford Jr. first tried to woo from the broadcast booth to the Lions' front office after the 1998 season.

Ford Jr. is vice chairman of the Lions and son of franchise owner William Clay Ford, who purchased the team in 1964. Ford Sr. has final say on Millen, and his son has not intruded publicly on his father's domain.
The Lions ended the exhibition season 4-0, the only franchise to do so. But since then, the team has imploded with a leaky defense and an ineffective offense.
Millen came to the Lions from the Fox Sports Network after a successful career as a broadcaster and NFL linebacker with the Raiders, 49ers and Redskins. He played on four Super Bowl champion teams.
But his leadership of the Lions has been anything but championship-level. Rod Marinelli, who was hired in 2006, is his fourth head coach, and Millen has a history of failed draft picks.
Wait, doesn't that article say that Junior is the one who brought Millen to the Lions in the first place?
Ouch.
In response to other posts, YES, Martz HAS been blamed with everything, including the ebola virus.
HOWEVER, when Detroit casts him off, will he have the future of say, Dusty Baker or Ned Yost?
Think about it, won't you?
Matt Millen should leave team as things getting worst for Lions...

Detroit News Staff
ALLEN PARK -- The Matt Millen era, one of the darkest periods in Detroit sports, apparently is over.
Whether he was fired, left on his own accord or some exit plan was reached mutually, was not revealed, but FoxSports.com reported Millen was informed Tuesday night that he was being relieved of his duties.
The action came two days after Bill Ford Jr., son of owner William Clay Ford, told reporters he would fire Millen if he had the authority.
Millen, who told reporters as late as Tuesday night that he would not quit, reportedly was at the Lions practice facility Wednesday morning and was seen packing up his office.
There was no immediate word on who will take over in the interim, though Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Lewand would be a possible choice.
Millen was hired by the Lions with no front office experience. In his eight years in the job his teams posted a 31-84 record. The team is 0-3 this season and has lost 10 of 11 games. The Lions never made the playoffs during Millen's tenure.
He has been roundly criticized for poor draft picks and failed free agent signings. In 2006, radio station WDFN organized a protest march, called the Millen Man March, which called for the team to fire Millen immediately. Fire Millen signs were seen at stadiums -- and not just football stadiums, throughout the country.
The Lions befuddled fans by giving Millen a five-year extension in 2004. There is some $10 million remaining on that contract.
Millen was an all-pro linebacker and won Super Bowls with the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins. He was working as a television analyst when the Lions hired him.
Yes it does. But looking back to 2001, I cannot fault a moribund franchise like the Lions for thinking outside the box and picking Millen, a proven championship player with no front office experience whatsoever.
At least they were trying something.
But it was obvious from about year 2 that the guy was in way over his head and was too stubborn to admit it. And Ford Sr. is complicit in all this by being his typical loyal-to-a-fault self (Ford Sr. invented, patented and continues to redefine that phrase).
Ford Jr wanted Millen, but after 2 years he knew the guy was overmatched and wanted him gone 3 years ago (right after the draft...Mike Williams anyone? Another receiver...again).
But Bill Sr. is an old stubborn curmudgeon, and stuck with him.
Junior is just waiting for the old mother er to die. And so is every Lions fan around the globe. The Lions are the laughing stock of the league for a better part of 10 years (if not more in the past pre-Barry), have yet to even make it to the Superbowl in franchise history, have exactly TWO wins in the playoffs in my lifetime (wait, or was that just 2 games and they went 1-1.... , its been so long).
He is the reason, a HUGE part of the reason. Everyone knows it, the radio talks about it, the blogs rap about it, the forums are all over it. Everyone knows it but good-ol-insulated, "I dont do interviews or answer any criticism from simple fans" Bill Ford Sr, who because he was fortunate enough to be born to a Ford, had the luxury of never having to give a what anyone thought about his systematic dismantling of the Lions from perennial loser when he bought them, to perennial laughing stock, doormat of the league.
2 days ago Ford Jr spoke up....today maybe the old bas finally listened. Its about ing time. I might start watching more football again.
btw Shoog, any hostility you get in that post is NOT directed at you......lol.
I bet you knew that though.
The Matt Millen era, one of the darkest periods in Detroit sports, apparently is over.![]()
Now I'm pissed, cause Vinny Cerrato might be the reigning leholder as #1 dumbass running a club.
(Al Davis is in a special category all his own.)
Al Davis is hardly a dumbass. Former AFL commish, godfather of the modern NFL, broke racial barriers by hiring the first hispanic and african-american coaches in the modern NFL, hired the highest ranking female executive in the NFL also managed to win 3 Superbowls, his team has appeared in 5. Not to mention he is an NFL Hall of Famer. Not exactly dumbass credentials.
He is simply a crazy old man who has lost his mind and doesn't always remember what decade he's in. Happens to the best of us in our twilight years.
The Lions STILL Blow...
In other news, Clay Aiken is gay.
It's still going to be a ty year and probably another 2-3 ty years after that, at least. Even if the Lions make the right call with the next management personnel, it's going to take a while before they can clean up Millen's diarrhea of a mess he made here.
That is true. He actually tried to fire Lane Kiffin twice already this season but both times Kiffin said "I'm Art S , I don't work for you anymore."
That would explain why "Lance" is still there.![]()
1-15 with the only win coming against the Skins?
Nah, they're going winless this season.
And Calvin Johnson, it's a shame that your talent is wasted in Detroit. You can flat out ball against anyone in this league, even with a scrub like Dan Orlovsky throwing you the ball.
Pad level. Claw the wall. Pound the rock.
Christ.
They really are going to start Pep after only two practices.
Un ingbelievable.
Gonna be ugly.![]()
Well they have noone else!!

Culpepper with 104 yards on 5/9 passing with 1 interception.
