Final: Spurs 95, Hawks 89
By Joe Alexander
FOURTH QUARTER
Who do you turn to at the end of your second tough game in two days when everyone on the court is dog tired? If you're the Spurs, you go with the old guys. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Michael Finley were the only Spurs to score in the last nine minutes of the game.
Duncan, Ginobili and Finley combined for the Spurs' final 26 points in a 95-89 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. The Spurs survived despite turning the ball over nine times in the fourth quarter.
With the lead dwindling away, Ginobili made one of his crazy spinning drives into the lane for a basket that put the Spurs up 89-85 with 32.2 seconds left.
Remember the Michael Finley who always used to lead the Dallas Mavericks in scoring? He showed up with seven minutes left in the game. He made hit three jumpers in less than two minutes to help the Spurs hang on to the lead.
The Spurs scrambled for a big play when they needed one. Manu Ginobili fell down with the ball but managed to pass it off to George Hill. Hill drove around the top of the 3-point line and into the lane, then passed it back out to Ginobili. Ginobili then hit a 3-pointer to put the Spurs up 73-67 with 7:13 left.
The Hawks made another 9-1 run that included 3-pointers by Mike Bibby and Joe Johnson. The Spurs' lead is down to 70-67 with 7:28 left.
Tony Parker, who had only two points through three quarters, hit jumpers for the first two baskets of the fourth quarter. The Spurs lead 66-55 with 10:29 left.
Both teams are likely to be weary down the stretch. We'll see who has the most left. The Spurs are working with a small lead and more bench strength.
THIRD QUARTER
The Hawks finished the third quarter with a 9-1 run. The Spurs, who led by 15 points with three minutes left in the quarter, take a 62-55 lead into the final period.
This is turning into an old-school Spurs kind of game. The Hawks are shooting less than 40 percent and are on pace to score less than 80 points. The Spurs lead 61-52 late in the third quarter.
The Spurs made a 9-2 run early in the second half to grab a 13-point lead. A 3-pointer and a jumper by the Hawks' Joe Johnson allowed them to cut the lead to 52-44.
SECOND QUARTER
Matt Bonner nearly had a double-double in the first half. He had nine points and 10 rebounds as the Spurs took a 43-35 halftime lead.
Tony Parker scored his first points on a jumper at the 3:31 mark. The Spurs lead 36-29 and both teams are starting to look a little tired.
Manu Ginobili has hit three 3-pointers and has 11 points. He also has three turnovers, the last one leading to a fast-break dunk for the Hawks. The Spurs lead 34-25. Tony Parker, meanwhile, is 0 for 5 from the field and hasn't scored. Ginobili and Parker both started slow on Tuesday.
The Spurs got the first two baskets of the second quarter from Roger Mason Jr. and Kurt Thomas and lead 29-17. The Spurs are using their bench extensively. Starters Tony Parker and Mason opened the second quarter with Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Thomas.
FIRST QUARTER
Matt Bonner helped the Spurs play an energetic first quarter. He had five points and seven rebounds and the Spurs finished the period with a 25-17 lead.
The Spurs look like they have more energy than the Hawks. The certainly have more bench. George Hill and Manu Ginobili entered the game midway through the first quarter. Ginobili's 3-pointer gave the Spurs a 20-8 lead. The Spurs also have a 13-5 rebounding advantage eight minutes into the game.
Tim Duncan is off to a fast start with six points in the first six minutes. The Spurs are also hitting the boards hard. Duncan and Matt Bonner put offensive rebounds back in for baskets and the Spurs lead 13-8.
I hope he didnt pick up n injury or somethin. my feed is so pixelated, I can pretty much only see Mason's big head moving around
Manu 5/7 3 point shooting, weh.
Spurs win ugly but a win is a win. Next...
Yeah parker had a bad game but they played great defense on him.
Spurs WIN...95-89...GO SPURS GO!!!!!![]()

We are now seeded in 6th baby.
Good W anyway !!! good BtB with Dallas and lakers losses
A few people said Manu would be off tonight because it's a back to back.
I will second that.
Udoka looked pretty mad being on the bench
I believe for Pop, Bonner is the human incarnation of the word teaser. Maybe Pop doesn't want to show full strength? Or maybe because Pop is experimenting with small ball for the mean time. Pop is a master of mind games. Just a theory though.
agreed.
50 minutes for Duncan vs 36(?)min for TP.
well that's okay. B2B and we won. That's impt
I think Parker was showing flu-like symptoms a few days ago...he probably has what Udoka had...
Outrebounded them 50-26...yikes.
I think Udoka will be asking for a trade or something sooner or later....
Manu off the bench was the key I think... Season high for him with 27 pts, and taking over the game in the 4th, vintage Manu![]()
It's crazy when people on ST(myself included) about Bonner only playing 27 minutes. I really wish he'd get played more though. I demand no less than 30!!!! Especially with all the heart, energy, and confidence he's been bringing for weeks. It seems like now timvp can copy and paste Bonners game thoughts, but in a good way.![]()
Bonner - +16
Mason - +10
Hill - +8
Finley - +6
Great contributions from the supporting cast. TD and Manu were awesome. I really think Parker is still feeling the effects of the Terry flagrant.. though youll never hear any excuses from him or the Spurs.
