overrated in the sense that many posters remember him as being more than just a good role player.

the only good numbers he's putting up this year are points. his shooting has been terrible (38% from the floor, 28% from 3). he's rebounding worse than finley. he's also terribly overpaid for what he actually gives you.

posters here remember the big threes he hit in the two game 6s, but they forget that he was very streaky (and not a great shooter overall), had questionable shot selection, was a turnover machine, and had at ude issues here that - while not being insurmountable - have not been present in any Spur since.

now, if you could get him without giving up anything more than spare parts - he would be an upgrade over finley (although finley has actually played better this year so far). but there would be questions about how well he could fit into a role on this team. would he be able to adjust to being the 4th or 5th option on the floor at any given time? would he be okay with his shot attempts being cut in half?

those who think mason is a better fit for this offense - they are right.
How about you actually start looking at the defensive side of the ball. Stephen Jackson is probably a better defender than most of the players we have on the team in the SG/SF position. The Spurs are a defensive team, not an offensive team. IMO that is the area you should be looking at first, then how he fits on offense.

outside of a 6 game series with Dallas 2 years ago - Sjax hasn't played a lot of defense since going to GSW.

he's better than finley. but despite his length, i'm not sure he's much of a defensive upgrade over manu or mason at this point. now, maybe if he came here he would revert back to form, but I don't think that's something that you could bank on happening.

Bonner is actually playing pretty good. The only way I think the Spurs would trade Bonner is if we get a big in return.

the problem with adding bonner to the deal is that the spurs really need him to be on the roster and playing well in order to have a chance at the le. it may be asking for too much, but it's what they're face with.

there, you slightly upgrade the 3 spot, but downgrade the already weak 5 spot at the same time.

To make the salary match. I assume the person that posted that matched the salaries.

These big contracts also significantly lowered their trade value. If a team is ready to roll the dice and make the financial gamble, this team will eb able to get one of them without giving a lot of assets.
Exactly why this would be a great opportunity for the Spurs. GS is not going to get anybody significant in return for Jackson. Spurs can offer expiring/1-year contracts and a future draft pick, which is about the same as what other teams will offer. GS gets out of Jackson's contract, grabs some future prospects, and rebuilds.

I do think the Spurs need to make some kind of move to contend this year. I like the team's new players (Bonner/Mason/Hill), but I'm not sold on Finley holding up to 30 min/night over the whole season and playoffs.

It would be nice to have our SF back. I'd be open to anything outside of Duncan, Parker, Ginobili to get him (which really isn't saying much ).

Ime, Finley and Bonner for Jax works contract wise. Ime and Finley are on their last year and Bonner whose stock is at its highest ever only has one more season after this.

That could be pretty attractive to a team like GS looking to break away from Jax contract.

It's far from sure that Spurs consider that getting back S-Jax is a "great opportunity".

In 03, they let him go by refusing to give him a big contract.
Five years later, he is basically the same player except that his contract is significantly bigger that what Spurs were ready to give him in 03. Spurs also want to have some cap space in 2010.

S-Jax brings a lot of good memories to Spurs' fans but Spurs' staff hasn't that emotional approach. I don't see Spurs investing $43M and canceling their 2010 plan for a player that has some qualities but who is also an inconsistent, inefficient scorer with a questionable at ude.

    BTW, welcome on the board.

    better iq
    better teamate

    mason is clutch
    better dribble
LOL anyone has a better dribble than Jax, even here he had the worst handles I had seen ever!!!!!!!!! He is a clutch shooter and a very good player, but his handles are and have always been horrible.

adding jackson would seriously make us a better team- no doubt.
maggette is a dog who wanted to chase money instead of wins and now he's paying the price- good riddens to him

jackson can shoot and i see him as a good fit with us
dont know how we would deal our players for him though

    Cant agree with that...

From SG's to even some PF's Jax sticks everybody.

Clearly the No.1 defender and draws the top assignment on that GS team

SJax is a low-IQ chucker who does nothing else but chuck at a low percentage.

Finley has a trade restriction. He can only be traded if he chooses. Do you think he will let the Spurs trade him to GS who is going nowhere, this late in his career? Heck no. I can only see him going to the Lakers, Cavs, or Celtics if he were to permit a trade, and we aren't trading to any of those teams.

SJax is a low-IQ chucker who does nothing else but chuck at a low percentage.
He rebounds, passes, and plays some defense. He brings toughness, killer instinct, will go the extra mile to defend his teammates, and has a huge hunger to win.

But thank you for your in depth analysis of his game. it was quite useless in deed.

Look at SJax's career stats to for very low RB, AST, Blocks, in spite of his height and athleticism. His TOs are high. He's a stupid, inefficient chucker/rebound generator/brawler/night-clubber not offset by his few big 3s he hit for the Spurs.

Doesn't Jax make like 10 mill more than Mason. I guess we can expect Manu to take a cut or maybe Tony? What abour plan 2010? Let's buy out Splitter's contract first?

It would be sweet to have jackson though its not gonna happen:

    Parker/Hill
    Ginobili/Mason
    Jackson/Bowen
    Duncan/Bonner
    Oberto/Thomas

    thats a sweet lineup

you can blame the slump on nellieball,

and jax playin with a wrist injury......

small ball is , that team basically has no frontcourt help at all...beidrins/turiaf/randolf << inexperience frontcourt cmon.

they are in tank mode basically.

    jax + turiaf <<< i like this.
